Old photos wanted of Big Pines Meadow

We have a group of people that would like to see old photos of Big Pines Meadow. The group is also interested in others who wish to help preserve one of the last remaining high-altitute, forested meadows in the ANF.

I heard a rumor that there are some old pictures of the area from the Big Pines Winter Park days and there used to be a swimming pool in the area.  I'll check with the person who told me this and see if they have access to those pictures....

I believe the swimming pool was where the electrical transformers are now, in the fenced enclosure in the lower parking lot.

Nolena is correct.  I have a picture of the pool and it was just about where the electrical transformers are.  It was just west of the Fire Service Garage that is still on the road up to Mt. High West.  Unfortuntely it does not show the meadow.  I have many old pics of the area, but none have the meadow in them.

The new Wrightwood/Big Pines history book has a photo of the meadow on page 113. It's a winter picture with the meadow in the far background, so it's difficult to see much detail.  There are some people standing around the edge of the meadow and a small building up near the top.

There's also a photo of the Big Pines swimming pool on page 96 that shows its location just west of the arch.  It was built in 1927 and closed in 1938.

The book is available for viewing at the Wrightwood Library.

The book is also WELL worth buying, I did and I love it!

It is full of early photographs of the Wrightwood area, and offers endless information regarding the history of this fine town of ours.
