The last of the Grape Hyacinth went out over a month ago but I found this purple grape shot.  Those flowers are really purple!

The Last of the Hummingbirds

This fellow is the last guard of the hummingbirds that occupy our valley.  There is an Anna's and this guy, a Rufus.  Last year we had a bunch in January and February....we'll see about this year.

These Quail were on the hunt for a cricket that made a very brief appearance and then disappeared.  They eventually found the bug and ate him.  Notice how well they blend in with the log.

Thanks.  The intensity of the hunt was almost comical once one of them spotted the bug.

Poor buggie.   :'( :'(    The thought of those quail scurrying to get the bug must have been funny.    I bet they ran into each other and bumped head until one of them go it.

This fellow is putting the brakes on hard as he comes into the feeder.
Caught the wings on the down stroke.

This fellow was one of the last birds that was hanging around.  We still have at least 2 that frequent the feeders.  Last winter, we had six that wintered over.

How cold was it?  Cold enough that the Quail flock here on the ranch had a pairs ice skating session.

Great photo of the quail, Wildman!  :2thumbsup: Did they do any jumps or throws?  ;D  (I'm a big fan of figure skating.)

Thanks.  There were some real comical moves that some were doing when they would slip and fall.

The picture was taken with my new Canon 30D that just arrived on the 19th.  It was one of the first pictures I took.

The first in the Skating Quail series.  Harry has just told Bob the Quail to hurry and get out to practice the skating moves before the women get down shopping for bugs embedded in the ice.

More Quail.  They are very active close to the house now that the weather is cold.  This male is looking for seeds under the Manzanita bush by the house.
