From The Archives....

Sketchy is our ranch cat who quietly rules over the the place.  Her best friend is Buzz, the wonder dog.  They are inseperable.

This little House Finch was looking at me with both eyes.  We won't see snow for quite a few months, now.

Mocha is growing fast and we introduce her to all of the horses.  She is still somewhat fearful and has a healthy respect for them.  Here she is checking out one of the younger Belgians.

A moment later, she rested her head on Annies forehead.

I took this a while back at a fire in Anaheim Hills.  The sun was obscured all day.
This summer could bring similar sunsets as we continue with one of the driest years on record.

This Roadrunner was stalking a little chipmunk but missed in his blazing attack.  Went from zero to mach 2 in a few feet.

Taken during Wildfire Awareness Day.  Brent Speers has donated an incredible amount of time, effort and $ to making this community a better place to live and work.

He's not a bad looking fellow, either!

I finally finished the projects have been occupied with and they are going to press.
Here is the moon when it was almost full and there were some clouds floating around in front of it.

This fellow was buzzing around waiting for the feeder to get refilled.

The Red Tailed Hawks raised two more chicks this summer and Mom & Dad are busy teaching them how to fly and to hunt.

Finally, this bird's wings seemed to be transparent.

Raven waiting for his morning rodent to expose himself.

The other night a cloud must have been full of ice as the sunset really gave it a prism effect.

Every morning and evening, the creatures line up for a drink at our pond.  Water is scarce in our canyon and the wildlife utilize the water day and night.  These Gambrel Quail are some of the several hundred that live near by.

Wildman, LOVE your photos of wildlife!  Several days ago, I saw your pic of the hawks on another thread, and set that pic for my desktop background for now.  Beautiful shots!   :2thumbsup:

Well, maybe it was this thread, didn't notice the date till now.  Anyway, all the photos are beautiful!

You should see the photos he didn't get because he forgot to take the lens cap off!

Wildman,

I think you have CA Quail there. CA quail have a scaled belly and Gambel's Quail have a belly with no pattern, but a black patch underneath. It is hard to tell for sure in that photo. The photo of the male quail on the previous page is definitely a CA Quail.

I was surprised when we moved to Yucca Valley that we have Gambel's Quail up here as I thought they were only low desert quail.

Regardless of the species, the photo is absolutely beautiful!!!!
