Inspiration Point on the North side of Hwy 2 has proved to be especially nice with the amount of snow we have.

All levels of difficulty, from the mundane for very small children to a long and wild run for older ones who don't know enough to fear injury.   ;D

Pay close attention to the weather as we do have a storm due this weekend.
If we do get snowfall on Saturday be prepared for winter driving conditions and that would include having tire chains with you.

Have a great time and make sure to come back on the forum and tell us how your experience was.

Here's a link with the NWS forecast for Wrightwood.

Two Saturdays ago, my stepdaughter and her hubby brought their 2 kids, ages 3-1/2 and 5, up here to play in the snow.  (They live in Simi Valley.)  I directed us up to Grassy Hollow, which is about 1/2 mile west of Inspiration Point on Hwy 2.  We found great spots for little kids to sled down.  As RobertW mentioned above, you can find spots for most levels of difficulty at this location also.  Very safe, and the kids had a blast.  Traffic was not bad at all.  You do need an adventure pass to park there, luckily, I remembered to take my annual one with us, since we were in their minivan.

Welcome to Wrightwood  ;D

If it's your first visit, you may will not want to go home.  ;)

I hope your kids have long lasting memory of their visit. Stop by the FS station at Big Pines, located at the intersection of Hwy2 and Big Pines Hwy, and you can get directions to the areas mentioned.

Be safe and be sure the kids have a clear path away from trees.

So we are all packed to head up tomorrow (Sunday).  But looks like we're not getting much rain today, will there be enough snow to play in?

There is still plenty of snow at the higher elevations that were mentioned in this thread. We are getting snow now that is light and fluffy - make for a soft landing for your daughters!

This snow is supposed to continue through tomorrow (early afternoon), so come prepared with dry clothes, mittens, hats, etc. Have fun and let us know how it goes!

Also ensure that you have chains or cables for the vehicle (depending on vehicle type) or 4wd.  I even have cables for the rear wheels of my 4wd Sport Trac!

Extra food, water, TP, plastic bags for trash, etc.  With the snow late today, and quite possibly overnight, check the road conditions before you leave, and LEAVE EARLY to come up here.  Sometimes after a snowfall, the snowplayers/skiers/boarders come up at first light, and traffic can be heavy as early as 8AM.

But do come up, have a great time, and let us know how you did!

Thanks again, everyone for all the helpful advice!  We had a blast in the snow and even stayed late enough to catch the brief snowfall around late afternoon.  We ended up going snow tubing and played in the snow a bit around the area.  It looked wonderful yesterday with a lot of the powder still fresh on the pines.

Visiting Wrightwood for snow play...
Hi!

We're planning a day trip to do some snow play.  Where is a good spot to go without bothering the locals ? I know mt high doesn't allow the snow play.  It was recommended to just stop at the hardware store to buy some sleds and a daily Forrest pass  and drive up the 2.....

Any advice is appreciated ...
Thanks
-Ron

Grassy Hollow area is great for snow play

Be cautious near any frozen areas such as Jackson Lake.
Ice travel is never safe in Southern California Mountains.

Amen to the Grassy Hollow suggestion!   :2thumbsup:
My grandkids had a blast, when the kids came up last winter for snow play (and yummy lunch at Mexico Lindo)!

Rany - Not sure when you wanted to come, but I don't believe there is enough snow on the ground for sledding just yet. We only got about 4" here in town, and not much more up the road.
