Has anyone who has Wednesday Trash Pickup seen CR&R at all?   Just want to know before I drag the cans out.

Reminder!

CR&R Observes the Following Holidays

    * New Years Day
    * Labor Day
    * Memorial Day
    * July 4th
    * Thanksgiving Day
    * Christmas Day

If the holiday falls during the week, collection for the remainder of the week is one day behind. For example, if July 4th is a Monday, and your normal collection day is Thursday, we'll see you on Friday.

Which bin is for regular trash and which is for recycling?  I have a green and a blue.  I've been doing it one way ever since moving here but a friend told me it's the other.  :-\ CR&R never told me or sent me any instructions.

Blue is for recycling and green is for trash. Remember, recycle in the BLUE bin so the sky can stay BLUE!  :)

A real trick is to figure out exactly what "trash" is........cardboard is not trash, for example, because it can be recycled.  Therefore shoeboxes; for example; are not trash.  Some of the plastic bags used by stores to tote stuff home is now recycleable......not trash.   Pet food cans,  cans used for human food,  and the like are trash.  Is spoiled fruit considered trash?   How about chuncks of concrete, or asphalt?

Generally speaking, I think of trash as anything that will not decompose naturally (plastic bottles, pvc used for lawn irrigation,  tires, etc).

Cat food cans and vegetable cans can be recycled.  I take them to the recycle center and get money for them.

Maybe whatever trash service is in place where Gary lives (Riverside, I believe?), does not accept food cans as part of their recyclables, but they ARE on the list of things accepted by CR&R's recycle plant.  As are all plastic bottles and containers.  Food and beverage containers do need to be rinsed out before placing them in the recycle bin.

According to the list that came with the bear-proof cans, the following are allowed as recyclable:
-Newspaper
-Junk mail
-Cardboard
-Glass containers & bottles
-Magazines
-Tin and aluminum cans
-Styrofoam
-Computer paper, ledger paper
-Plastic containers & bottles
-Telephone books
-Scrap metal

NOT allowed in the recycle bin are:
-Waxed paper or milk cartons
-Aluminum foil
-Window glass
-Food and green waste
-Plastic toys
-Automotive and plumbing parts

I'm an avid believer of recycling, and when in doubt, I place the item in the recycle bin.  I'd rather take a chance than throw away something that could have been recycled.

Thanks for posting ForestGal.  I remember that list and we do our best to follow it.  But I have to wonder who is checking up on this?  Is it SB CountyGov people?  Because if it is....

A few years ago I missed my "trash" pick up and the CR&R guy who was picking up my recyclable stuff said he would dump my "trash" in with the recycle pick up.  I asked him if that was okay to do and he said it was no problem...

Since when does CR&R have high-tech trucks that divides trash from the recyclables... ???

According to the list -
YES to styrofoam
YES to aluminum cans
NO to aluminum foil

Nolena is obviously wasting valuable resources in her feeble attempt to remain sane.   ;D

Jason, it's sad to picture that the "trash" guy said it was OK to put that into the "recycle" truck.  To my knowledge, the stuff in those trucks is taken to different facilities, depending on the contents thereof.  I'm certainly no expert, just a concerned citizen.....   :)
