Road Runners
« on: Jul 20, 12, 12:01:35 PM »
Oh, happy, happy day!! We haven't seen them since the big snow a few years back. Now, we have a male and a female running through
and taking some time to eat this and that .. not to mention a bath.  Perfect.  I'm hoping to see some babies soon.  I will try to take some pics of
them. Course, I've yet to learn how to post pics here. cheryl o7o

One crossed in front of us a few weeks back while were were traveling west on Nielson road heading towards Beekley. I can see why you are excited as they are a very cool animal to observe.

Here is a link on how to post pictures on the forum:

Fastest birds on two feet, other then the Ostrich.

They're also territorial.

I have one that comes every morning to look at it's reflection in the window.

Well get that game camera to capture some images Bob.
I wanna see if it is as healthy as all the other animals that visit your water trough.  ;)

Testing!  If it works, here's my resident Road Runner.

Nope -- on to plan B

Laughing.. last week we were on the 138 w headed towards Oasis... a baby roadrunner ran in front of me. I, of course, braked. The idiot behind me
that was following too close.. swerved all over the road. Sorry Dude,, that's a baby road runner and don't follow so close.

I will attempt to read the instructions someone was kind enough to post in this thread about posting pics. If you see pics from me.. you'll know
I figured it out. Others have tried to help me with this. I appreciate all attempts. cheryl o7o

p.s. Road Runners eat rattle snakes.. they actually swallow them whole. Fascinating.

Well, so much for plan B... <sigh> We have to figure this out!  I really enjoy the wild-life pictures posted on the forum and would love to share the ones I have.  I managed to open a photobucket account but can't get them to post.

tc, they eat just about anything!  I was trying to post a picture of our Resident RR "preparing" his meal of a baby gopher snake in my front yard.  (I do wish he'd leave the baby gophers snakes alone as they keep the rattler and gopher population down.)  So far, I know that he's snacked on the snake, a good number of lizards, the 3 Kill Deer eggs, 5 baby birds in a nest I thought were well hidden, and an unknown number of sparrow & mocking bird eggs in the Italian Cypress trees.  He DIVES into those trees!

This guy is very social as well.  The dogs don't seem to mind him being around, he walks by them like he owns the place.  He even visited Oreo, the dog we lost, while she was in her crate!  I sure miss her...  :'(

Ours wanders up onto the deck occasionaly.  Then he seems to look in the windows (checking his reflection) and twitches his tail like a dog.

I just read the instructions for posting pics on WWF (again) . How do I explain this: Oh, possibly a snowballs chance in P.H. in July that I will be able to do this. But, I will take my camera out there and try to get some pics .. that none of you will likely ever see.

Mom was watching the female yesterday and she was around three or so feet from Mom eating some Oregon Grape. Mom said "I didn't dare move..
but the funny thing Cheryl was that the lizard that hangs out here (we call him Clyde)... ran all the way up to the corner of the porch." Therefore,
I want to get some pics. After the RR left.. Clyde was peeking around the corner to make sure the coast was clear.

And, Yardbird .. so sorry about your Oreo .. you just always miss them.
