Old Broken Refrigerator
« on: Jan 22, 14, 01:23:23 AM »
Hello. We have an old garage refrigerator that quit working last month. I remember seeing SCE offering a rebate to pick up and recycle old refrigerators. I went to their website and it said the refrigerator has to be working at the time of pick up. Ours is not. It runs but is not getting cold.  It's an old 1988 little Hot Point. Probably not worth repairing a 26 year old refrigerator... :-\

Does anyone know of another pick-up/recycle program for old broken refrigerators in our area?

Thanks!

You could take it to the Phelan recycling center on the same road as the dump station. They will probably give you a few bucks for it. Now your only problem is getting it there.  ;)

Thanks Elk! It's a little 16 cubic foot model. So it won't be too much trouble dragging it down there.

CR & R provides two free bulky item pickups per year. I just set out a sectional couch, a broken washer and misc. other items. They were all gone in two days. Hurrah!  cheryl

You can usually get rid of stuff by putting it by the road with a "FREE" sign. That's worked well for me.

I keep an old freezer in my garage to store garden stuff.  Bug spray, liquid fertilizers, fruit tree sprays, "gofer-getter" and traps, spray paint etc..  I stole the idea from a friend that stores his welding rods and stuff in one.   Keeps stuff high and dry, air tight and a metal cabinet.   Just a thought if you have room for it...

Take it to Phelan recycle by the dump. I took a old fridge there last month, and by weight I got $11 for it.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I had one member message me on how to turn it into an outdoor patio ice chest! Pretty cool but I have limited wood working skills...  ;D
