Need a ride to Victor Valley College??
« on: Sep 20, 14, 11:23:40 PM »
I like to take one day at a time.   Unfortunately, sometimes several days attack me at once.

My daughter did it once or twice last year...at that time it wasn't free, but the route you described was 2 bucks each way.  For $1 extra they had a small shuttle WAITING to take her to the famous "public restrooms behind the bank" in Wrightwood  :)  (you just have to call a few hours ahead to request the connecting shuttle).

Less convenient and more time than a car obviously, but I agree, it's a heck of a deal.

Schedule worked out great for me.    Class is over 3:45.   Bus leaves VVC at 4.   Gets to the mall at 4:30.   Bus for Phelan leaves at 5 and he was in Phelan at 5:30.  The bus headed for Wrightwood leaves Phelan at 5:41.   Unfortuantely, it has to go to Pinon Hills first and then up here leaving him at the Community Building at 6:20 p.m.

You are right.   It depends on what bus you catch and what time the connecting bus gets there and bring you in to Phelan.   We checked out the schedule heading out to VVC and it didn't work.   If he was dropped off in Phelan along with my high school student (even if we went down there at 6:30), he would be late for his 8 a.m. class if he caught the bus at the mall.

I wanted to pass this message along because I'm a big fan of public transit and if no one uses it, they will not add services.   I grew up in San Francisco where we didn't use a schedule.   There were buses running so regularly there was always one to catch if you missed the previous bus.

And I've played the deviation game before.  You have to call at 8 a.m. on the day of service (can't do it the day before and can't do it as a scheduled deviation) and pray that someone has not already deviated the bus to Pinon Hills.   They will not deviate a bus to Wrightwood if it has already had to go to Pinon Hills.  It was a race every day that I needed them to get a ride to Wrightwood.  Now with bus #20 DAR it is a scheduled run and it comes up here whether or not someone is on the bus or waiting for the bus.

According to VVTA, their website wasn't updated yet. By phone, they told me:

Route 20 Departs Wrightwood:

M-F: 7:22am, 8:51am, 10:21am, 11:51am, 1:21pm, 3:21pm, 4:21pm, 6:21pm, 7:41pm.

Sat: 9:18am, 10:48am, 12:48pm, 2:18pm, 3:53pm, 5:18pm, 6:48pm, 8:18pm

Sun: Make reservations (24 hours preferred. One hour ok, if they can)
