I think that I am either going to cry or throw up....

That is pathetic!!!!!

I think that it would be informative to interview audience members at Music in the Pines with the same questions.

Cherry-picking stupid answers from a few people out of 10,000 at the beach who happen to be drunk, lazy, or nervous in front of cameras is hardly cause for outrage.

I don't know TimG.  You ever heard George Carlin's take on "stupid people?"  The above video pretty much confirms what he said.

George Carlin:
Do you ever notice how many stupid people you run into during the day? Darn there's a lot of stupid @$*&^*# walking around. Carry a pen and pad with you and I bet you'll end up with 30 or 40 names at the end of the day.  Look at it this way. Think how stupid the average person is and realize half of them are stupider than that!

About a quarter of the population struggles to keep up, but that's the same across time and cultures. 75% of people, when polled in the US know their basic history, just like 75% of people know it in Germany and Great Britain. No matter what culture you sample, 25% of the people believe in alien visitation, or the sun revolves around the earth, or that dinosaurs walked with Jesus, and that's just the way it is.  Julius Caesar complained about the 25% of his own population that was lazy and clueless. That's just the way it is.

So you go to the beach, or on the sidewalk in Manhattan, and save 1 out of 4 interviews you record, string them together, and then we can all shamelessly pat ourselves on the back for not being ignorant, and shaking our fists at social decline, and then we can get the tiny little dopamine hit for the nostalgia of remembering the imaginary golden age we pretend we came from.

Not going to argue that TimG. I'm sure the video was edited to fit his angle. He probably interviewed 200 people that day, went back and picked the best/worst answers.

That's all I'm saying, no point in getting worked up a video that was made and edited just for that purpose and has no informational value.

You are right, there is no informational value to the video.  However, there is entertainment value to the video.  Look how many people "watched" his non informational video.  Now we're back to square one on stupidity...

I decided to add this to our discussion. I remember the day the father of one of the boys that worked here brought him to work one day and asked me why I was flying all the flags. Before I could answer he said: "Oh, it's Labor Day." It was Memorial Day and he worked for the post office.  I guess he didn't know why he had the day off.

I loved George Carlin. I miss him.

And, we should all recognize that naturalized citizens must learn more about our country than our nation's children remember from school. To quote TimG:  t's just the way it is."   Maybe we should all have to pass a test before we can vote. I don't know why I think that the people interviewed in that video don't vote. cheryl o7o
