The article said that Blue Cut didn't meet the threshold for federal disaster aid. It didn't say what the threshold was. I hope County officials are working with Rep.Cook, Feinstein and Boxer to address this.  cheryl o7o

Me too!  I am amazed how the Fed can say no yet this is one of the larger fires. If I had one of the 96 homes and one of the 200+ out buildings and they told me we did not meet the threshold...  What do we need loss of life.  Give me a break! 82000 displaced people? And threshold not met!  Good lord.

So much for "transparency".    Where are the tankers?   I paid my fire fees.   I feel that one little hot spot along Hwy 2 is there just to keep us from going home!

Much of the time tankers were unable to fly due to turbulent conditions. Fire fees are not for fire suppression.

You pay the fire fee to CalFire alone and it was supposed to be for "fire prevention" when it started....not for trucks, firefighters or aircraft.

You have no air tankers because there is no longer a need for them on this fire.  They have moved on to the fire in Lake Isabella, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo and other fires around the state and nation.  We had predominently federal air tankers although there were also many CalFire  tankers and helos when the needs were immediate.  The nation is at Planning Level 4 which means that significant amounts of people, engines, dozers and aircraft are committed to fires around the country.  The resources are allocated based on immediate need for life or large amounts of property.  All of the pilots who flew here....landed...refueled and are dropping somewhere else in the country.  I was on a fire last year in northern CA with 1 medium helicopter for almost 4 days before they could shake another loose.  Our fire up north was in wilderness and not threatening any towns or homes.  Remember that there are major fires burning in 7 western states that are all requesting scarce resources that we compete with.  Thankfully, Blue Cut is on the down hill slide to complete containment.

More looters arrested per county text information system , they need to let us back in, half the population is already there anyway

Jim Wilkins, I always love your informative posts.  Can I ask:  What is the legitimate reason for not letting us back in at this point?  I would understand if the fire had actually come through Wrightwood, with downed power lines and other hazards, hot spots in the area, etc.  Makes sense for West Cajon ... But it didn't, and that little area of heat around Gobbler's Knob doesn't seem threatening at all ... far less than just the Sharp Fire a few years ago.  I'm starting to feel frustrated, and would rather not feel that way.  We evacuated as soon as the call came, hoping to stay out of everyone's way, and I'd like to keep thinking that was the right choice.

Do you have any more info on that? All I can find is a rehashing of the 3 they caught a few days ago. I heard some scofflaw stay behinds chased someone away from a house in Lytle Creek, but haven't heard anything up here.

TimG, I'm definitely not Jim Wilkins. We don't look anything alike.  :)  But if you check the maps that Wrightwood loaded this morning, you will see that the "uncontrolled fire line" is very much active and pretty close. I'm hoping we can go home today too, but it appears to be more than a single hot spot. Of course, I yield to Jim's knowledge and experience!

ChrisLynnet, that fire hasn't moved in days, there are two breaks dug in between, the red flag conditions are gone, and it would have to go through the Sharp Fire burn area to get to WW, which still doesn't have much vegetation.  I'm not a firefighter, though, so don't know, which is why I'd love to hear from someone who does, but it doesn't seem at all threatening to me. Jim even said that this is on the "downward slide to full containment" and doesn't warrant the use of air support.
