Re: Escape/evacuataion routes

This request is for John A.
As I've already reported on the Forum, when I tried to evac on 9/17, I got lost 2x trying to get to LPC because the detour signage is missing. After some further comments, you kindly notified the gov't agency who is involved in the project re: the signage.
Since 2 of our evac option routes are blocked off due to the fire, I know you and other entities advise people to evac Hwy 2 to 138.
However, that route, or parts of it, can also become blocked off at any time. LPC, if not on fire, may be our only way out.

I, and I'm sure others, would greatly appreciate it if you would post the directions to weave our way through the detour here on the Forum. That way we have proper information we can carry with us. Wright Mt. Road to......
Or, another person w/intimate knowledge of the route might be willing to post it here.

This information should be available to us even if we aren't under evac if the signs are missing. It's just more critical now. And Santa Ana winds will be behind our back.
If these directions are already posted on the Forum, please let me know where they are and, perhaps, they can be re-posted in this thread.
I am more than willing to assist in making temporary signs, if the responsible agency has not yet replaced the signs, if that can happen.
Thanks much.

From Highway 2:

Wright Mountain Road
Right on Zermatt
Right on Lausanne
Left on Orchard
Left on  Lone Pine Canyon

GPS can weave you through the area, too

Is Big Pines Hwy open? The county website shows it closed but I keep seeing a lot of video from different people taken from Jackson Lake.

Even if Big Pines Highway were open, you would be heading into the teeth of an advancing Bobcat fire.  Not a good idea.

Highway 2 and LPC Road are the only alternatives.

Speaking as someone who evacuated during the 2009 and 2016 fires, I would want to be going away from a flame front, not anywhere near it.  Which is why we evacuated via Big Pines Highway/Largo Vista/CA-138.

My $0.02

Thanks Bob

Hwy 2 to Hwy 138 is the recommended evacuation route should it be needed for the Bobcat Fire

Dear Bob C, Thank you 100x over for the proper directions through the LPC/Sheep Creek detour. Can't tell you how much it means to me, and my neighbors, who also are not familiar w/the detour area...only the "regular" way to get to LPC. We now have them in hand. Again, many thanks. sagespirit

we live on the far west side of town and I just want to compliment all the fire fighters from the bottom to the top.
Thank you all very much for your dedication and hard work. We all know that you folks pulled many allnighters and we really appreciate you guys (and gals) ...

Total homes as of the last count update 9/29 is 83 homes destroyed, 22 "affected", which I would equate to damaged.

Wife and I took a drive down Big pines highway. surrounding areas around it look like a total war zone. Sad.
