Updated: Hi this is Sabrina J. and I have some disappointing news indeed. I just received some information and was asked to share it with the community.

"The Volunteers of the Angeles National Forest will no longer be providing service at Grassy Hollow Visitor Center as it will be permanently closed. Administrators of San Gabriel Mountain Monument/Angeles National Forest have decided to put the facility out to bid. Their plan is for a concessionaire to take over and use the money they make to maintain the building and the site.

Hundreds of volunteers over more than two decades have served tens of thousands of visitors. What a loss for all." UPDATED: All animals/displays/merchandise/odds and ends belong to the "Volunteers of the Angeles National Forest" and will be removed from the building.

As a former volunteer and past President I would like to thank the community for its love and support and a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers involved in providing their time, effort and love to keep Grassy Hollow open all these years. We will miss providing the public with summer/winter programs and nature hikes, educational field trips, Smokey Bears Birthday celebration, and what we did best, providing the public with the importance of protecting our natural resources. We will miss Grassy Hollow Visitor Center.

Update as of March 9th.
Some of you read my disappointing news that Grassy Hollow Visitor Center will be closed permanently and the volunteers were asked to remove their possessions so the foresr service could rent out the building to an concessionaire. This was sad and disappointing news for sure. The volunteers now had now were to go.
BUT WAIT there is good news on the horizon.

The Volunteers of the Angeles National Forest will move into the east end office/workroom of Big Pines Ranger Station, which is 3 miles west of Wrightwood on Hwy 2. Although this space is way smaller than the building they were in before they will make it work. They are in the process of regrouping, rethinking and reorganizing.  I would like to thank all who made a comment of support and love for this organization.

I am excited the volunteers can still provide service to the local community and the folks that visit the mountain. Signed, a former volunteer
