Angeles National Forest change fire danger level

Angeles National Forest

With outside temperatures soaring and our vegetation drying out, our fire officials have changed our fire danger level and fire restrictions to Extreme. That means NO campfires, smoking, or open flame anywhere in the forest. Read the Forest Order at: https://go.usa.gov/xF34w

Also a reminder that a citation for an illegal campfire or open flame during a CFR closure is a mandatory court appearance in downtown L.A. and the judge will set the bail. It would also be nice if ANF works with Caltrans to set up portable message signs on both sides of SR2 and the other roads that enter the ANF as they did last year. It helps us enforce the closure.

Toolman, Are you and the other VANF back out and patrolling? It is much needed given the lack of LE available from ANF.

Yes ! we were just reinstated after COVID opening up on the fourth weekend. We aren't members of VANF so I don't know what those activities are. We have a larger area now but mostly stay in area 38 and 37. We have some truck issues but that is to be remedied in a week or so. We have one additional Big Pines Patrol group member added to the roster. I've often thought of stopping in on the way up or down BP but wasn't sure if you were still at the camp.

I am still at the Camp but not there on the weekends very much. Mostly M-F. We have CAL FIRE using the camp this summer as a hand crew fire camp. They have 5 crews that are housed here however right now 4 of the 5 crews have been sent out of the area fighting fires throughout the state.

If you are out M-F, feel free to stop by!
