VICTIM(S):

SUMMARY: Between August 30, 2021, and September 2, 2021, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department - Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET), along with San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies from several different patrol stations, served thirteen search warrants at various locations in Hesperia, Pinon Hills, Phelan, and the Landers area.  MET personnel had received numerous complaints about large outdoor marijuana cultivations in these areas.  San Bernardino Sheriff's personnel located and arrested twelve suspects.  Investigators seized 10,105 marijuana plants, 1,334.8 pounds of processed marijuana, three guns, and over $30,000.00 in cash.  Investigators mitigated one electrical bypass and eradicated 39 greenhouses.

The investigations revealed the cannabis cultivations were not in compliance with California's Medical and Adult-Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (MAUCRSA) and San Bernardino County's ordinance prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity.  San Bernardino County has a law prohibiting Commercial Cannabis Activity, which includes growing marijuana plants outdoors.

The Sheriff's Gangs/Narcotics Division will continue to enforce California's cannabis laws and San Bernardino County's ordinance regarding cannabis cultivation and distribution.  Persons found guilty of violating the state law and county ordinance are subject to fines, prosecution, and seizure of property.

Property owners who are growing marijuana or are aware their tenants are growing marijuana on their properties in violation of the state law and local ordinances may also be subject to civil or criminal sanctions.  Property owners are encouraged to contact their local law enforcement or code compliance agency to confirm if cultivating cannabis is prohibited or allowed under specific regulations.

The suspects were cited on charges of Cultivation of Cannabis; over six plants.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation or is urged to contact the Sheriff's Gangs/Narcotics Division at (909)387-8400 or NARC-MET@sbcsd.org. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463), or you may leave the information on the We-Tip Hotline at www.wetip.com.

Those google earth photos look suspicious.  I read Marijuana takes at least a gallon of water a day.  When one considers the number of plants out there.. that's a lot of water.

I went for a drive the other evening with the top off on the Jeep and smelled green marijuana a dozen times.  That smell carries for an easy 1/8 of a mile or more.

My dad was telling me up in Oregon its Chinese and Russian's growing all the illegal pot.  The locals are upset about all the water theft.

There are over 800 illegal grows in SB County.  The arrests the other day are a great start.  Only 790 or so to go.   Water theft is a huge issue both with the PPHCSD and the Mojave Water Agency.  The MWA had a great presentation on it a few weeks back complete with maps.  There are a lot in this area. The County approving wells without notification or requiring the CEQA process is also a problem.  MWA has cut back allowances for water agencies.  I do not know if that impacts Golden State. It did impact PPHCSD.  Operation Hammer needs to become Operation Bulldozer.

Is there any word on the young woman whose body was found yesterday afternoon on the 138 near the Mormon Rocks fire station?  CHP report stated they were treating it as a homicide. I believe that is the protocol when a body is found.  They were also looking for evidence of a traffic accident.  So far, there is nothing on the Sheriff's or the Coroner's press pages.
