Nah, it was the big creepy bug ForestGal saw that scared the bird.  All the birds and animals up there know Wrightwood is their friend.  They may be afraid of seeing him in his shorts again though...

They're back.
One was just inside and another right outside the entrance.

None in the bird nest area. I think that won't be until spring if it follows the past pattern.

The acorn woodpeckers are the ones we are watching as they appear ready to do something in the birdhouse with a camera in it.

Today another woodpecker house with livecam has been added to the system. For the time being the Nature Cam (Residential) rotates between three livecams- Guzzler Cam - Acorn Woodpecker Cam - New Woodpecker Cam.

Hopefully we will get Flickers to move into the new house. The house is the same shape and size as the Acorn Woodpecker House but for now I've got the camera pointing towards the entrance - rather than the bottom of the house.

New Woodpecker house update:
This morning a flicker found the new house and partially stuck it's head in the opening.

It didn't take long for a pair of Flicker Woodpeckers to start working on the entrance to the new birdhouse. (The two photos are of different birds)

Notice the tongue exploring the inside of the house in the next two photos.

The following is a 8 meg movie showing one of the Flickers working on the entrance. Check the wood chips that build up on the bottom of the hole in just a couple of minutes

I noticed the Flicker cam is not on the nature cam rotation. Is there a reason for this and has there been any more activity from them?

Can't put anything by you Bob. I'm having problems with the main DVR and had to redirect the camera feed to record some of the activity that's been taking place.

The new bird house is the hot property as the Flickers have been working on the opening, Acorns have been going in and out along with a Nuthatch. It's going to be interesting to see who moves in.

The original Woodpecker house is occupied every night by an Acorn and many in and out visits during the day.

Here's some Acorn activity in the new house:

Both Acorn and Flicker Woodpeckers have been working on the 2nd house. Today was the first day for the Flicker to enter the new house and what follows is worth watching.
