Nope, treated it like a bee sting, a little ice and some tylenol and she was fine.

Scorpions will glow under black light. You can buy 48" black light tubes at home depot that work in regular fuorescent fuxtures for $18.00.  Take one outside at night and see what you can find.

if anyone catches a scorpion, i'd love to have it.  i'd want to put it into a terratium temporarily to show the students and especially to take a picture of it under my blacklight...

My cat's paw swelled up to the size of a golf ball. I didn't even know scorpions were up here until I rushed him into the vet. He was a very sick kitty.

I imagine that if the same scorpion had stung a human it wouldn't have affected them much given their greater body mass. But it was sure bad for my cat!

In another life, I went on a walk at night with a guy who was doing his doctorate on scorpions. (I was a caretaker at a scientific research center.)
We took a black light, because they flouresce. He showed me how to pick them up (by the end of the tail so that they can't sting).
Then he showed me how to tell a female from a male. (Look at the underside.  :o )
That was the guy that told me that there are no poisonous ones in our area.

Look what was guarding the Big Pines Station when I went into work this morning.  He was sunning himself in the early morning sun in the parking lot where the USFS trucks are parked.

It is the biggest scorpion I've seen up here.  It was three inches long.  I should have put something next to him for scale.

I tried to shoo him off and this was the response I got:

He just refused to leave his spot and was there a little later when I went back out to the truck to retrieve my radios.

Later when we were turning the water on at Mountain Oak Campground we found a Chigger:

Spring and warmer weather is bringing out the critters.   ;D

I didn't know we had chiggers up here, that's one more thing to look out for.

Dog wanted to go out last night at 1:30. When I opened the garage door to let her back in, a scorpion came in with her.  She just about stepped on it, in fact I think she did step on it but she avoided being stung.

I've never seen a scorpion in town before.  In fact it's only the second one I've ever seen period.  What keeps them away?  I don't want to scorpion friendly - lol.

Eek! Other forum members have reported seeing them but I never have in 8 years. I had a cat who got stung by one though; the vet confirmed it when I brought my kitty in. Those are some freaky insects -- or rather arthropods. (I looked that one up.)

I stepped on a Scorpion once while shaving barefoot in a very rural small town in Langostura Mexico.  When I looked down at it, my jaw dropped.  Anyway, I wonder if racoons eat scorpions?  Maybe snakes and coyotes or bobcats, etc?
