Ring Tail Cat LiveCam
« on: Jan 25, 03, 01:50:20 PM »
The Ring Tail Cat LiveCam is setup with a low light camera
and a small
red light near the Suet Feeder and fountain.

The two sightings of the Ring Tail were approximately 10:25 PM

That is one very cute little animal in the box you click on. This must be the world's very first livecam dedicated to ringtail cats! Wow! Congratulations! But, how come the picture is black?

Now we just need the little guy to stop by.

The picture is dark - as it needs to be. The single red Christmas bulb is near the suit feeder.

The picture being broadcast appears to be clear. You should be able to see the bird feeding area, including some peanuts on the round disk.

I can see the lighted bird feeding area in the picture in the message with the time stamp, but the pop-up window accessed from the box in the masthead is still all black.

BirdSong,
you should be getting a pop up window that looks like this:

Thanks for your help, WW. Works fine in IE. Played around a bit and found that you need to have Java enabled for it to work. OK in Netscape now with Java on.

Ring Tail Cat on LiveCam
Was anyone watching the Ring Tail Cat LiveCam this morning between 2:50 am and 3:50 am 1-27-03 ?

If so you saw a wild Ring Tail Cat going at the suet feeder and drinking from the fountain for nearly an hour. (Also devored 2 dead mice, that I had found a few days ago)

No I wasn't up but did catch it on video tape. I'll get the tape transferred to an AVI file soon. The quality of the video is only okay due to a defective camera. A new camera has been ordered but will take a couple days to get.

New Ring Tail Cat LiveCam
A new "Night Vision" camera and "Infrared Illuminator" have been installed in the area of the Ring Tail Cat observations.

The Ring Tail Cat LiveCam may appear bright but it's actually dark with no visible light showing.

Wow! What a lot of light! Great, maybe now the ringtail will appear again; since the other small light may have alarmed it. At least, I am happier, since I can see more now. Thanks, WW for all your time, money and expertise on arranging this visual and vicarious treat for humans.

A lot of patience finally paid off.

The motion sensor sounded this morning at 1:10am as the Ring Tail Cat returned after a month of absence.
The video was captured on VHS tape using an Infrared Illuminator and night vision camera.

The movies can be download and require Windows Media Player to be installed and working.

That was the coolest, I think I sat and watched those things 10 times per each clip. He is so darn cute. I think he needs to be dubbed our forum mascot. Sorry Ryan, your cute too, but maybe you can share your role.

I had no idea that the Ring Tail Cat, State Status, was considered Fully Protected.

So is it the octavus subspecies that we have around here? I kind of like the other common name of cacomistle....kind of a nifty name.
