The Olympics That Didn't Happen

On the Mtn. High Resort's History page, I saw a brief story about the olympics that almost came to Big Pines in 1932.  If anyone has any more info about this, I'd like to know.  :)

I'm fairly sure it is covered in one of the newsletters on our History page. Unfortunately I don't remember which one.

Heres's a link:

The January 2000 one has a mention of it.

ACCORDING TO JOHN ROBERTSON'S BOOK "THE SAN GABRIELS", THE REASON THAT THE OLYMPICS WERE CANCELED WAS DUE TO THE LACK OF SNOW FALL. THEY WERE MOVED TO LAKE PLACID IN NEW YORK THAT YEAR.

According to the history research done by Barbara Van Houten, there was a bid for the the Olympics but Lake Placid already was selected prior to the lack of snowfall in the San Gabriels.  The "lack of snow" is a rumor that has been proven to be false.
