We have had daily occurances of thunderstorms with active lightning. The lightning can strike a tree or log and it will smolder for days and then pop up. The prescribed burn was in Lone Pine not Slover canyon. There are currently quite a few fires burning in four counties that have no staffing....either because they are doing no harm or the area is unaccessible.
Because of the large number of fires throughout the Western US(they're getting the same type of weather), there is now a shortage of helicopters and Hot Shot crews. They are being allocated to the fires with structures and people threatened.
Remember that fires burning in adjacent canyons have to burn to the top and then creep down into our valley. Our past fire history (Scout-Turtle-Blue Cut-Narrows-Biedebach) tells us that fire coming downhill doesn't happen easily in the Wrightwood valley area.
