Is this anywhere near the place where they did the prescribed burn during the spring?

Don't know about the fire, but it is starting to rain, so that should help. Also if you go to the Mtn. Hardware cam, it is pointed toward Slover and you can not see any smoke at this time.

We have had daily occurances of thunderstorms with active lightning.  The lightning can strike a tree or log and it will smolder for days and then pop up.  The prescribed burn was in Lone Pine not Slover canyon.  There are currently quite a few fires burning in four counties that have no staffing....either because they are doing no harm or the area is unaccessible.
Because of the large number of fires throughout the Western US(they're getting the same type of weather), there is now a shortage of helicopters and Hot Shot crews.  They are being allocated to the fires with structures and people threatened.

Remember that fires burning in adjacent canyons have to burn to the top and then creep down into our valley.  Our past fire history (Scout-Turtle-Blue Cut-Narrows-Biedebach)  tells us that fire coming downhill doesn't happen easily in the Wrightwood valley area.

San Bernardino National Forest crews (Station 33 Morman Rocks) are on scene along with water tender 101 from Wrightwood.

The 1 acre fire was caused from a lightning strike and was along the ridge top. The best description of Slover Canyon: As you are coming up Lone Pine and look up the last canyon on your left before entering Wrightwood you're looking up Slover Canyon.

The IC that named the fire Slover wished he would have called it the Big Horn Fire as they spotted 4 big horn sheep when they arrived.

Crews have a handle on the fire.

Crews report that they nearly have a hand line around the perimeter. Two snags will need to be dropped - forward rate of spread stopped.

Sounds like they're having a little problems discribing how to get the units into the area via the Blue Ridge Road that runs by Heath Canyon...

The scanner may not be picking up all the transmissions. When I was at the base of Slover Canyon and had the hand held scanner locked on frequency they were very clear on how to get to the top of Slover Canyon. Including colors of flagging tape along Blue Ridge RD.

Wrightwood, that must have been you I saw on Lone Pine - do you have a white vehicle?  We're so lucky to have you!

Went into town and saw channel 7 stetting up. Went past three fire trucks heading up Hwy 2. Just wanted to thank all of you for the info and the pics. They say "a picture is worth a thousand words" and with the descriptions and the pictures I feel better about the location of this fire.

Don't have a scanner?  Want to know what exactly is going on?

Just a reminder that "Wrightwood" has made it possible for ALL of us to listen in on what is going on.  Listen in on the action by clicking on the "Live Scanner" icon at the top of the page.
