New Wildfire Signs
« on: Oct 15, 06, 09:06:17 AM »
Three new Wildfire Area signs have recently been installed by San Bernardino County Road Department.

The signs were a joint project between the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council, San Bernardino County Fire and San Bernardino County Department of Public Works.

County engineers, Wrightwood Fire Station and Wrightwood Fire Safe Council members survey prospective location for the new signs.

Locations were marked for Caltrans approval and dig alert.

The new signs are located at Hwy 2 & Hwy 138, Hwy 138 near Mormon Rocks Fire Station and the bottom of Lone Pine Canyon.

The Wrightwood Fire Safe Council would like to thank everyone involved in making this project happen.

IMHO, these signs are just alerts for arsonists as to where to start more sucessful fires.  :soap: :fireman:

If thats the case then it will only make finding arsonists easier.  Just look for the person with the pack of matches next to the sign.

Maybe it will get a few people to think before they throw a butt out the window.

 :o

Sorry. I got quite the visual image from that one.  ;)

The signs are great! Anything that promotes awareness of the danger of wildfire is great!  :2thumbsup:

For people who have lived in this area for any length of time there is absolutely nothing funny about wildfires.

FYI-  I am a firefighter for the USFS, live in an area that is probably more dangerous for fire than most of the community of Wrightwood. I take this stuff seriously.

They're (the signs) probably not going to hurt anything, but I also don't think it should be viewed as some earth shattering alert thats going to change anything. More than anything else it will make a few people in town feel better as well as give props to some people for getting this project done.

That's really all fine in the end.

Also FYI- These are not the signs that were originally requested by the FSC. The message of the original concept signs was taken from signs put up by another FSC in Kern County that had a very clear message. I agree with you completely that these signs are probably not going to change anything. The original sign concept was intended to remind both residents and visitors about the volatility of Lone Pine Canyon and the need for extreme caution. The original concept was not allowed by Caltrans. That is by the way, a matter of public record. So there is no reason not to post it here.
