An arsonist set fires along Hwy 18 - Extinguished by passing motorists in Waterman Canyon.

1:52PM SUSP VEH IS NEWER WHI WORK TRK WITH A RACK - WAS LOADED WITH WHI BOXES - PTY SET THE BOXES ON FIRE AT LEAST 3 THAT THE WITNESS SAW
1:50PM THAT VEH IS WHAT 10 HAS STOPPED LOG 904 - HHE COPIED INFO 1039 SB COMM CNETER TO ROLL A FIRE INV
1:48PM ADVS THESE ARE THE BOXES THAT POSS STARTED THE FIRES
1:46PM RP ADVS SEVERAL PEOPLE SAW THE WHI TRK STOPPED IN THE AREA WHERE THE FIRE STARTED
1:46PM RP ADVS CHP HAS WHI PK STOPPED - ADVS THAT IS POSS THE SUSP THAT STARTED THE FIRE
1:44PM 1039 SB CTY FIRE REF LOWER WATERMAN
1:44PM MAKE SURE CITY FIRE KNOWS ABOUT THE 1 AT LOWER WATERMAN
1:42PM PSR BY ADVS THERE IS 2 MORE FIRE 1 AT LOWER WATERMAN AND 1 AT UPPER WATERMAN THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PUT OUT YET
1:38PM RP ADVS WAS A CARDBOARD BOX PUT THE FIRE OUT WITH HIS DRINK - LOOKS LIKE I T WAS INTENTIONAL

Sounds like they caught the suspect... :2thumbsup:  The 18 is close enough to Cabazon that one wonders if it could be the same arsonist.

2:45PM HE APPEARED TO BE WATCHING THE FIREMEN PUT OUT THE FIRE, UNK DUR OF TRAVEL DRVER IS A W/M/A
2:37PM FIRE IS 97 IN #2 LN UNIT WILL 1023 UNIT RELIEVED

Suspect vehicle is a 2002 white Chevy pickup with license plate 7A66064. The subject was last seen at 14:10 at the Valero Gas Station in Crestline. It is not known what direction he left the gas station. The plate is registered to a vehicle owner in Hesperia.

The suspected arson may have been by a mechanical issue.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department now think that the driver of the white pickup truck stopped after something caught fire under the vehicle. He removed some boxes to get to a fire extinguisher. Driver of the vehicle then extinguished the flames and may not have noticed the fire.
