Snow players invade Wrightwood

   You're lucky you can tell when the snow melts....Down at the levels there's so many pampers thrown on the ground it's still white till spring.

My friend Jeff went fishing at Tujunga Creek a few years back.  A ranger came by to check his permit.  Then he asked Jeff "how do you like the creek.  After Jeff told him it looked really good, the ranger told him the crews had just been by to scour the debris from the "Diaper People".  Diaper People?  Jeff replied quizzically.  Yes, replied the ranger, we don't approve of ethnic or economic slurs to define different groups, but the Diaper people leave their diapers, McDs trash, or foil-pan BBQ for others to deal with.

Some really good suggestions!  Love the idea of a high-powered water hose--itching powder is good....hmmmm... we'll have to give it some thought!  We do worry about one of our dogs getting aggressive, but mostly we worry someone will sled into a tree and then sue us for the damage.  Does anybody know of anything like that ever happening up here?  There are so many snow players on private land, it seems like a possibility.  Our first year in Wrightwood we were shocked at how people will go into the neighborhoods to play in the snow.  I guess growing up in Oregon there were wide enough open spaces and fewer people so it wasn't necessary.  I could never imagine playing frisbee or having a picnic in anybody's front yard.  Do Big Bear and Arrowhead have the same problems?

Maybe instead of people holding up signs advertising the resturants in town it could be signs with sayings.

"Recycle that broken Sled and Make $$$" or

On my first accent of Mt. Whitney, I talked with a Park Ranger.  His job was to climb the trail each day, picking up trash left by the "hikers."  He would bag the trash in plastic garbage bags and leave them at the side of the trail.  Once a week he would bring a mule, pick up the bags and transport them down to Whitney Portal.  The "hikers" could pack full cans of pop and food but could not seem to pack the empty cans back down!

That doesn't sound like the hikers I know.    Oh, I see the quotation marks around your word hikers so you're using the word loosely.    Most of the hikers I know love nature and would never considering leaving anything but footprints.

Is there a dumpster by the community center?   Maybe if they provide a big dumpster that is not locked then maybe the visitors can use it.

Just the thought of some city person unfit to climb Mt. Whitney..... drinking soda on their hike!!!  I believe it & find it hilarious too!

When we pack in trail crews in the Inyo and Sequoia NF, we pack out the trash that is strewn over the entire trail network.  Anything you find here....you find there. 

There are some dumpsters at the community building parking lot.  If they are not locked, they are filled to over capacity by weekenders who think it is so "wonderful of the city" to provide them with free trash disposal.  The fire station dumpster started getting locked because it would be full of OPT for a week before the dump day.

OPT?    Please elaborate.   I wasn't complaining about the locked dumpsters.   I know that businesses and residents have dumpsters for a reason - they need them.    What I meant was there should be one but I thought that one belonged to the bank and was locked.

I was just there off Wright Mtn. Road when we had to turn back rather than sit in traffic on the 2!  Not only were they blocking the road and stealing our snow (hmmpph), they walked in front of my car like I could stop on a dime, giving no thought that there was  ice/snow/sludge on the road and I had no chains/4-wheel drive/all-wheel drive.   I feel sorry for all my lower East Canyon neighbors! 

At the wash on LPC and Sheep Creek, due to all the cars, only one car could drive through at a time, again with little kids running in the road.

I have a theory that there's a black hole up Highway 2 that swallows snowplayers. That's the only reason traffic ever moves.
