Jek134... I don't know the answer to your question about a banner on your fence. The County Road right-of-way at my place goes right to my fence line. It is not shown on my parcel map. Go figure. This has not stopped me from putting up signs out there when a cat went missing.

The Supervisor for County Roads around here is a very, nice and helpful guy. p.m. me if you want his number. One helpful tip he gave me, when he came here at my request .. was that lawyers will sue you over two inches. Whether a banner on your place could constitute a 'distraction' for drivers.. I do not know. And, it might be useful for you as a property owner to know what the right-of-way on your property is anyway. And, thanks for wanting to be pro-active. cheryl o7o

Being a resident on Table Mountain. I can tell you its getting totally out of control. A couple weeks ago when that lady was missing and search parties were out. They could barely make it up the road towing the snow track vehicle because so many people were parked IN the street, the only way up was to go into oncoming traffic which there has been plenty of going down. I can offer that putting cones out in areas where you don't want them to park really helps a lot. Its just not a feasible option to do all over Big Pines and Wrightwood.

In most communities that I see the police officers are not the ones giving the parking tickets, usually its lower level employees or volunteers. Why can't this be done here? I am sure there enough residents up here that are fed up with the parking issues and traffic that would volunteer there time to assist. It's time to deputize the residents.

You would be talking about "Meter Maids" that are non-sworn police officers. Two issues here.....State Highway 2 is CHP enforcing and because of our location comes out of possibly four offices....two in San Bernardino Co and two in LA Co. Streets in town are Sheriffs and again, they come from LA County and SB County. None of the agencies have non-sworn personnel issuing tickets that require the offender to pay a fine or go court. All the agencies have "volunteers" but they do not do enforcement work. The real issue with today's society is that having non-sworn folks doing enforcement in an isolated area with limited backup is an invitation for them to be assaulted or worse as not every person coming up here to recreate is a family person with values like we know.

Bottom line.....the system is broken and needs to be fixed. Right now we are stuck between anarchy due to mass influx vs hiring a bunch of untrained undisciplined "Barney Fifes" or getting luck-of-the-draw volunteers to control them .

Bottom line is that we live in a tourist destination a few weekends a year, and there's nothing to be done about it. 20 million people look up through the smog and see a cheap date. If we had resources as a town we could build them places to play to help mitigate it, while also trying to harvest some revenue. But we're not even a town, we're a census-designated place, in an era where no one wants to pay taxes and invest in infrastructure -- and there's no reason for businesses to inject capital for a few weekends a year other than the ski resort. Mountain High and Mountain Hardware go above and beyond already. So it is what it is. We're left to stay home on snowy weekends, pick up trash afterword, and enjoy the peace and beauty of the other 350 days a year.

You're right, TimG. It's only a few weekends out of the year. The traffic is bad and the trash annoying, but we are living in a resort town with a ski resort and a natural resource that Californians want to see just as much as we do. And from the looks of it, we are not the only mountain community with this problem. In a way, I'm very proud that people want to come up and visit a place where I am lucky enough to own property. I'm always friendly to people who drive by and ask a question because I hope they feel the residents of Wrightwood are welcoming people. Thanks for helping me get a perspective on the situation.

I completely agree with TimG and jek134. We have the great privilege of living here year-round. It is frustrating to see how the snow players leave their trash and block the roads. But there doesn't seem to be a solution and when you see the children laughing and playing, it makes it tolerable. Plus they have to go home and we get to stay.

In the past few years its only been a few weekends, what if we were to actually get snow more regularly. It would become a every weekend event. I don't have a problem with people wanting to come play in the snow. I remember as a young kids my parents taking us to play in the snow. The difference is when we left there were no evidence that we were there. It makes me sick to see their value for our community. Driving up to Mtn. High on Saturday and Monday I personally saw their disregard, cleaning out their vehicles and throwing it along the side of the road, diapers, lunch, beer bottles, etc. Mtn. Hardware and Mtn. high are awesome for their contributions to control traffic and the aftermath clean up. But from what I could see on the side of the 2, signs $5 for snow play, is that the Big Pines Zip line? Are they contributing to the traffic control and clean up efforts. From what I have seen every time we get snow the day trippers flock to that area. I would imagine there were at least 5000 people out there. Even if a quarter of them paid their $5 fee, whoever is inviting this congestion they should be contributing to the traffic and clean up efforts.

For what it is worth... I have already seen the Fenner crews out this morning in the Big Pines area picking up trash and cleaning up after Snowmageddon 2016/2017. I thanked them and wished them well. Without these crews this forest would be a deplorable sight. Job well done Fenner!

I did a hike on the forest service road going up from Jackson Lake today and there were a whole lot of folks walking and playing on the frozen lake. Some were riding their disks and sleds down the side of the hill and onto the frozen lake. I guess they don't care about the signs prohibiting it. There are so many of them doing this that it is an enforcement nightmare, but I guess that's better than a health one if they fall in.

WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (KABC) --
While families gear up for a snow day in Wrightwood, residents in those areas are displeased with how visitors treat the community.

Residents said they have to deal with traffic on Highway 2 through town and trash that is left behind when visitors go home.

An Eyewitness News viewer sent in photos that show trash and even a dirty diaper dumped on the side of the road.

On some days, residents said there are so many people who come up to Wrightwood for snow days that there is no parking, which results in people going into neighborhoods and playing on private property.

"I happened to look out my kitchen window and there was about 10 people, including kids, playing in my front yard," resident Angela Meeks said.

Mountain residents said they are excited about another storm, and that they want people to come up and visit. But they want people to be respectful and leave the place the way they found it.

gee....and there even a "No Parking" sign over the newscaster's right shoulder. People know that law enforcement up here is practically non existent.
