Please be patient for Wrightwood.net (UIA) to let us know details of what this schedule means.

Here's a screen capture of the proposed activation schedule as of 5-9-16.

BTW... Dsl Extreme (routed through Frontier) is not connecting to the wrightwood.net website

I ran an ISP for a number of years, and can confirm that there is a routing problem between Frontier and UIA.

I'd certainly like to blame it on malice, but the mostly reason is not malice, but stupidity.

The reason our Frontier (and I'm sure DSL Extreme is just reselling Frontier) DSL is so bad is there are too many users for the amount of bandwidth they have in and out of town.

Those of us in Section 5 will get progressively better DSL as the other four sections migrate over to UIA.  Won't stop me from jumping the moment it's possible.

What is the hookup to our houses going to look like? Will fiber be run to exterior walls or to a point inside? Will we need to provide a modem? Router?

Starting to plan ahead on what I'm going to need to get this system to work the way it's meant to run.  Getting excited...

I am sure, based on the roll-out in Helendale, that the hardware necessary will be provided.  You might want to have your own Wifi router so you can control your own wireless in your home.  WiFi is always so convenient but unreliable, the best thing to do, for the best speed and reliability, would be to pre-wire your location for Ethernet.  I don't really know about construction and permitting, but I heard that new building permits in some areas are now requiring you to have the structure wired for Ethernet.

From Facebook 5/19/16:
Hayden Clark

Where do I find the updates on the new internet company that is getting ready up here?

Laura Kellerman Zuber

Hi Hayden. I work for Ultimate Internet Access. The latest news is that we are finalizing the plan. We have a couple of permitting snags, but we have a game plan for going around those obstacles. The plan for the town is listed on www.wrightwood.net. And you should sign up there for updates. As soon as we are ready, we will send an email out and in that email it will tell you how to get an agreement for installation in Section 1. We don't take the agreements until a few weeks before installation. I don't have an estimate for timelines for the other sections, but it will follow relatively quickly one we get rolling. We are getting as impatient as everyone else to get people installed, but we are nearing the very end of the permitting process and inching closer to installation. We appreciate your patience and excitement.

Charter Fiber also coming to Wrightwood ?
For month's there's been speculation that Charter Cable might be upgrading their system in Wrightwood. Today contractor crews for Charter were removing old wire and installing new cable and fiber lines according to one of the workers I spoke with.

New cable and fiber being installed

Removing the old cable

I've looked for some type of press release by Charter Communications about upgrades to the Wrightwood system and have not found anything yet.

Note: Charter Communications has completed the transactions with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks, and soon they'll be known by the name, Spectrum.

I had no idea we had the option of Charter here in town (not that I would have chosen it).  I love my DirecTV and am looking forward to a wonderful and reliable and speedy relationship wit UIA!

I love my DirecTV too. Great service. The only problem is when snow blocks the dish.  I have a handy swiper thimkee that just gets rid of the snow.. pretty darn fast . and voila.. TV is restored. I look forward to your experiences with this new company for Internet. And, I look forward to it being offered here in P.H. at a competitive price.  cheryl o7o

To which I would add "shop competent" -- cable companies and phone companies are the same when it comes to end-user customer support.

I have very little direct experience with UIA, but I asked a question, and got an answer from Mr. Zuber directly.  It was a good answer too.

Yup just spoke to the crew putting up the fiber cable on lone pine today.

They said the service is set to be on this Nov. the fiber cable is for all 3; phone, cable tv, and internet.

I'm assuming this was Charter?  Are we sure they're actually installing fiber rather than just standard copper?  There's a big difference.  I'd be really surprised if it were fiber.

Maybe

- "Since the initial draft of this resolution, UIA has entered into an agreement with Charter Communications to lease an additional 1 Gbps fiber line into the Wrightwood community in order to supplement the microwave backhaul. The fiber line will provide additional bandwidth and redundancy to the project and will not affect total project costs for the purposes of this resolution."

As a Burbank resident, I can tell you that Charter has been the sole cable provider for our city for decades, since they bought out Sammons Communications.  Their service has been so poor that even the City Council was looking for ways to bring in another cable company, which wasn't possible.  I've been a happy DirecTV customer for decades but most of the people I know who had Charter, even those who switched over to Charter because of the allure of their advertising, dropped them and went back to DirecTV or ATT Uverse which is also now available in Burbank as soon as they could.

To be fair, perhaps Charter will be better now that they've teamed up with or should I say bought out Time Warner, but I'm looking forward to UIA coming to town.
