Hello, we are not installing at your place but rather doing a survey to see where it should go. Then the installers will put in the drop to your house after that, you don't have to be home for that step.. then we will call and schedule for putting the drop through into your house and mounting the ONT.. testing all of your devices and making sure everything works in your house, disconnecting the DSL Wifi (which would interfere with the Fiber WiFi) and so on..

We plan on hitting all the backlog pretty hard and knocking it down in Section 1.

Yes, I misunderstood.  Your man was here right about 8:00 am, I showed him where I'll place my wireless router and he marked the spot on the outside for the drop crew.  He explained the next steps to me.  My little cabin will be an easy job.  Any idea how long before the drop crew drops the line to the cabin and how long after that before an appointment is made for actual installation?  Days, Weeks, Months (Oh I hope not)? :D

Just days.  We are starting installs in earnest this week.  We will schedule them in order of signing the agreement and give you a call as soon as we know the installation schedule.  Literally, you will be on any day now.

I will post the new schedule pretty quick. We are working on Section 2 right now and that should be about 30 days.

What section are you in?

Section 3, luckily seeing that you guys are installing on when people signed up and I happen to sign up the first day UIA flew it, hopefully it will be fast.

Living off the mountain and only being a part time resident has proved to be a little problem. Kara (spelling) called this afternoon and said they could install immediately if I were home, but I'm off the mountain and have to know a day ahead so that I can take the day off from work and be there.  The plan is for her to call me on Monday and setup an install for either Tuesday or Wednesday.  Everybody has been very nice and I'm looking forward to finally having internet at the cabin.   ;D

Sounds like it should happen next week then RobertW.
Sometimes if we finish early on an install we roll through our list and see who we can surprise, that's why you got the call.
We are developing a list of people that we know are there all day so are good candidates to fill in as the schedule permits. I wanted to get people on before the weekend and pushed it a bit to do so.

Let me know how the install goes RobertW.

Pbrady and Ocean,

Shooting for 60 days.. but it depends on Section 2 and how long SCE takes for pole approval.. They are only equipped to process 150 poles per month currently if you can believe that..

We have all the Fiber we need.. looking good there on supplies and man power. We are determined.

I have a question regarding power required to energize the fiber.. what happens when we lose electricity in town? Yes, I realize I need to find alternate power for the ONT and router in my house, but what about the actual fiber running through town? What keeps the "light shining" in the cable?

We had our install on on Sept 30th.  The guys were in and out in about a half hour.  We are all wireless and are seeing about 50 up and 50 down.  DSL struggled to get 4 up and down.  Very pleased!!

I just have to ask....

Do you need the same kind of approvals in areas where there are no poles (in section 4 and 5)?

I have a question for those of you who have received your installation already.  If you were with Verizon, what did you do about your email?  And did you turn off the Verizon (Frontier) internet and was that a hassle?

lwt42,

Not the same kind of approvals..that is just county encroachment permits and boring to put conduit in where we need to. We have our CPCN making us a CLEC and giving us the right to be in the public right of way.

lynnc,

We are about over a year into our Fiber deployment in Helendale and many people out there have the same issue.. When your DSL account is cancelled with Verizon.com your email addresses will be cancelled along with the DSL.

Most people find it no big deal to switch to gmail or yahoo or some other free email service. Verizon is not allowing forwarding or anything like that. I would recommend getting a new gmail account now.

BMWBIKER,

Actually DSL is only capable of 768K UP! Not even a 1 Mbps. Nowadays up is becoming more important then it used to be.
