It was pretty quick. I think I had somebody at my house 3 days after I called. I can't wait to have UIA at my house, but having Charter in the meantime is so much better than Frontier.

I too would like an updated schedule.

I know pole permits are the limiting factor, so I'm hoping that section 5 can follow quickly, given the number of poles in section 4.

I've been a Charter customer. I can live with Frontier until UIA gets here.

Does ordering a "Rough and Rowdy" at The Grizzly speed the process at all???

NO KIDDING! I'm in a Section 2 house as well and have UIA coming by next week. Once my wife experiences this I think we may become full-time residents and only occasionally visit our house down in the flat-lands! Even at half that speed I'd be happy.

the installation guys (Curtis and Jeff ?) were incredible. They went beyond what was expected with blizzard type conditions and they still completed the install. Job well done

I am in section 3 and also on the email list, signed a contract and have, like you, not received any updaates. My Frontier internet is working as advertised ( slow) and no issues but I am really looking forward to UIA and it can't come soon enough. I tell myself it will get here around April but hoping for sooner.

Yeah 5mbs is slow. I'm still surfing at a steady 0. I haven't had internet since I've lived here. I don't mean to be negative and I completely understand the folks at uia are doing their best in the face of some pretty rotten conditions but it's been my experience that you always under promise and over deliver. Not the other way around. This feels a bit like it's unraveling. At this point I'd take charter in a split second if they would offer it to me. I've been begging frontier (yeah I know it's sad) for 3 months to just give me any service. Just to be able to reliably see the radar for storms and to let the kids research topics for school would be a lifesaver at this point. Life before the internet may have been easier, but life in 2017 with no internet is near impossible.

Do UIA and/or Charter offer static IP addresses? Or at least not the always changing IP address with PPPoE through Frontier.

UIA does. I'm sure Charter does if you buy a "business class" connection, at a higher price.

Also, I see on the UIA website: "Gigabit WiFi router rental $4.95 per month" - but I don't see anything about the modem. From my limited research, is there even a modem to speak of, like there is with DSL or cable? How is the fiber connection terminated to the house?

I'm in Section 3, trying to survive on 3 Mbps Frontier for just a little longer and not cave into getting Charter/Spectrum in the meantime.

There is something called an ONT. Laser in, Gigabit Ethernet out. It needs to be mounted inside near power.

For $5/month, UIA will supply a router and manage it for you. If you aren't up to speed technically or just don't want to bother with it, this is a really good idea.

If you are, it's a very normal plain vanilla Ethernet connection. DHCP if you don't have a static IP, the same or simpler if you have static addresses.

OK, great thanks. I'm technically savvy enough to be dangerous.

It sounds like the ONT is doing what the modem would be doing for DSL/cable.

So it looks like I could be up and running quickly by going from that Ethernet connection to my existing router. I'm guessing I wouldn't get gigabit speeds, but it would still be many times faster than Frontier (and faster than my cable internet down the hill). Then later on (well, sooner rather than later) I could upgrade the router to get the full speed.
