Tonights quiz question was, what are the elements of a Yagi antenna called?

Susan came closest with Directors and Driven Element.

A Yagi antenna has one element that is "driven" with the feed line attached to it. Counting from the back, this would be the second element. The most rearward element is the Reflector, and all the elements in front of those two are Directors. Now, are the reflector and directors longer or shorter than the driven element?

Whew, I'd get a little nervous if I was getting hugs and kisses from Clint, not that there's anything wrong with that ;D.

Watch out Bob, you don't have to worry about the kisses but I am a hugger by nature. Most of my best male friends are huggers. The world needs more hugs you know!

I have a friend who is Jewish, and when he got his ham license I bought him a custom license plate frame that read:

    Amateur Radio

Where HAM is Kosher

I'm a big advocate of 220. We have a simplex net started on Thursday nights and we alternate between 147.57 (100.0) and 222.12 (100.0) every other week. I'm trying to get a new HF antenna up so my  HF is currently inop.

The Bluridge machine is part of the linked Mountain Repeater Assoc system. It's links to low Potosi and Contractors. From parts of Wrightwood you can get into the Condor machine on Quartzite (Victorville).

I'm looking to buy a used 331. Got a spare?

I'm putting up a vertical. GAP Titan DX. Being a small community with no industry and no big power lines, just less RF saturation in general, we are not too bad a place for a vertical.

Hey Clint,

If we're up there when you put up the Gap let us know, it brings back fond memories. Seriously :drummer:  Ba-dum-dum.

Mike and I started dating in March (not this one, back when) and I remember it because we missed Valantine's Day (hrmmmph). So when Field Day rolled around we participated together with the (then) TRW club. Our assignment: put up a brand new Gap out of the box and run 80m. Oh yeah, we had to put up a tent, too.

AMAZINGLY,  :Smileys: we had not one argument while putting up the tent nor the (pardon me) !$%!#$% Gap antenna. I thought this was a pretty good sign of things to come!!! :ballons:

Sadly, our station was a bust due to 1) bad band conditions, and 2) the 20m CW station next door walking all over us. I won't even mention the balun....

Kerin
(Who's having way too much fun with the smiley's as all my 'boards' are lists and don't use them. I'll get over it eventually....)

Already have the GAP. The Titan DX does not use ground radials. It has an elevated counterpoise at the feed point.  I have some real tree restriction issues so a vertical is the only option. Never been a big fan of the MFJ analyzer since it's not a true SWR meter and won't work at 220. Won't measure power.
I have a Bird.
