I don't think that's geeky! Many years ago I was out on a road trip on US 50 crossing the Utah desert. I gave my dogs a stretch/potty break off the side of the road and when out walking, three jets flew overhead at a low level. After I got over my initial jolt, I waved to the planes. The pilot in the middle tipped his wing as a wave back. I thought that was really neat!

I did the same thing out on the road up to Mt. Charleston just out of Vegas. The jet tipped his wings when I waved. I was jumping up and down with excitement!

Sounds like they were conducting a grid search. Maybe it had something to do with the many acres of 420 the police recently discovered secreted near Lake Silverwood.
