After living in Viet Nuys for 7 years, I never thought I'd find a helicopter with a spotlight interesting again, let alone so soon after moving.  Ah the quiet life...  But I've got a nice view out my office window, and it sure beats the paperwork I'm supposed to be doing.

40 King (SBCSD helicopter) was requested to look for a missing person that left earlier in the day on foot. They started the check near Lone Pine Canyon Rd and Sparrow, at the wash, as she liked walking that area.

40 King actually had to give up their aerial search of the canyon due to wind blowing.

That's by my house!  I sure hope they found the person.  I walk that area all the time!

There were reports (during the helicopter search) that the missing person was seen in the afternoon at a church in Wrightwood.

After living in Viet Nuys for 7 years,

Wow!
And I get chastised for making a joke about rebuilding the wall in an asian country?   ::)

BTW, My mother in-law is returning tomorrow from her one month trip to Ireland where she was born and raised.  Think I have heard her refer to it as her home country before.  Better correct her uh?

Can't have her using that type of "RACIST" lingo....

You know what, you are completely right, Pac-Fan.  When folks call it that, referring to the constant police helo presence, I always thought of the war, not the people or country...I don't think there's any large or cohesive Asian population in Van Nuys.  But I can see how it could be offensive, and I apologize if anyone felt that way.  Have to pay better attention to what I'm saying before I say it.

RE: Feb 21 - the missing woman the helicopter was looking for

According to SBCSD Sergeant Cilolli:
A 52 YOA woman was reported missing by her daughter.  Deputies located the missing woman at a nearby friend's home.  She was okay and unharmed.  The rumors of her being deceased are false.

Anyone know why Sheriff helicopter is circling over the west side?    He's so low, he's rumbling the furniture.

LOL   Caught me outside with contraband Swiss Chard lifted from an adjacent garden.      They didn't stay for very long but they must have been low to shake my furniture.  Didn't hear anything on the scanner either.

Thought maybe I'd see something regarding the Helicopter circling the west end of Wrightwood yesterday afternoon around 5 PM.   Went out on the deck to try and see what was up but, as low as he was, I figured it couldn't have been a good party.

He circled the valley for about 20 minutes.

Anyone know what was Up?

Thanks and enjoy this weather....UNBELIEVABLE.

That's what I had asked as the helicopter was circling.   I've never had one fly over THAT close and it went back and forth between the L.A. County side and towards town.

ForestGal, I get it "chards".     These Swiss Chards are dark green and have round leaves and stalks in bright colors ranging from yellow to red.   Beautiful in the garden, in a basket, in a pot and on my plate.  Yumm.    Sorry that's OT.

Back to the helicopters.      I'll have to wait till the Mountaineer Progress to come out and look up what was happening.    I thought maybe someone in the know would post what was going on in the air.    We locked all the doors and closed windows anyway as one time this happened while we lived in Tehachapi and it turned out the helicopter had been looking for an escaped prisoner.

Stitches, that was quite a sight yesterday! I wish it were only my furniture that vibrated. . . at least when we bought the house, a handyman had to come and tie the house to the posts   ::)
I wouldn't worry about criminals on the loose. In our previous experiences with helicopters flying overhead looking for a criminal, they got on the bullhorn and told us to get inside and lock the windows and doors. I doubt the Sheriff would be different from a municipal PD in that regard.

Stitches - I agree.   That chopper came down real close and circled in a manner that had me thinking something serious was up.

I guess we'll both be reading the Mountaineer.

Have a great weekend.    Unbelievable weather.
