Many times, manual focus is the best, depending on the subject. The 3 closeups from the Poppy Reserve above were taken with my 50mm f1.7 prime lens - the first lens I got with my first SLR back in 1986.  :)

Just in case anyone checks the exif info on those shots, it's wrong. For older lenses that don't pass the focal length to the camera, the K10D asks the user to input the focal length, as it is a variable in the algorithm for the image stabilization. I forgot to change it when I changed lenses, hence the focal length shows up as 200mm instead of 50mm.  :-\

Wow, Surfer_Dude, what an incredible shot of BP!  Can't wait to get back up top, but for me, it ain't happening until the snow melts.  I'm not brave, and I don't have a death wish.  But your pic makes me want to get back in shape, so that I can hike it, when it's do-able...... :2thumbsup:
