I kind of have mixed feelings about this like the owners. My family goes to Los Rios every year. It's a little sad to think that one or more of the goats my daughter played with in October could be cougar food. But, it's nature and mt. lions are very impressive animals.

There was a pair of coyotes ten feet from my house. Beautiful, healthy, male and female hunting together. A bobcat passes thru from time to time, but so far, no mountain lion. Horse people beware!

There was a large coyote running up my neighbor's driveway last night. I think it may have jumped her fence. Watch those pets.

That's terrible! You were right there and they still attacked? Unbelievable. Thank God you had something to use as a weapon and the presence of mind to use it. I sure hope your dog will be OK, please keep us posted.

SkierBob - my four-legged ones and I hope your little one recovers from the attack. We hope her little tail wags for years to come.

She's going to make it.  She really got tore up.  Her belly, neck and side of her face is all shaved and full of stitches.  She has a couple drain dubes in her neck and face.  She has one of those cones on her to stop her from scratching and licking the wounds.

all that and her tail is still wagging away!

I'm not sure what to do about the coyotes..

These are kind of graphic, but she's happy (tail still wagging) and she should be just fine.

That puncture wound on the cheek looks awful.  Poor thing; glad to hear she's going to make it, though.

I was wondering the same thing. SkierBob.. are you in town or up in a bit more remote area next to the forest in WW?

Here, our dog comes in for the night at dusk. Course, since the attack on your dog happened around 7:30pm.. that's about the same time. Jeff, our dog, is a big dog. He's part Shepard/Retriever.  I've just heard the coyotes in the distance at night here in P.H. I do think they'll start to wander down closer as the spring/summer has been so dry.

The best of luck with your pooches recovery. cheryl o7o

It wasn't WW.   It happen at my house on the ridge above Lake Palmdale.

The pup is doing lots better.  She's looking forward to getting the cone off her head I'm sure.  It's odd to see her so beat up but still happy as can be.

She found out the cone has it's good points.  She can place it over her dog bowl while eating and the other dog can't get at her food.

Ya scared us all to death SkierBob! Sheesh..but I'll take caution here in WW as I saw a coyote that tree our cat the other day in broad daylight. She's 10 years old this month, has 30 lives, not the usual 9!

Ya SkierBob.. "location, location, location." As that saying goes. .. So, you are more out on the desert where the coyotes got your dog?

I'm still sorry for your dog and your family. I do think ,, regardless of where we are.. we can expect more of those critters this year. cheryl o7o

How smart is she?! She sounds like a great dog.
