Sounds like it was a great trip. We did the Rockies (Mesa Verde, Durango/Silverton,Eagle, Estes Park and RMNP) in 2006 on the bike. It was the best trip I have even taken. The scenery is just beyond words.

We saw a lot of rafters on the Colorado along I-70. Lucky you!

It is using out-of-focus areas in a shot to limit distractions or just generally enhance a photograph and usually used to make a subject stand out.

Here I used a shallow DOF (depth of field) to limit almost all distraction except the Butterfly and target flower.

Using a wide aperture lens really helps to create a shallow DOF.
Here I used my 50mm 1.4 at 2.2, ISO 160, 1/5000 sec.

Sorry about that ForestGal, I get used to using terms and I forget others do not use it! My sister and I are always saying "Bokeh!!!!!"...kinda of a running joke btwn us, so I use it as an everyday word. You know how sisters are!!

This was taken in Arabu last year. Surfer_Dude's photo reminded me how much I love butterfies!
