I noticed a couple weeks ago that there were dozens of apples on the ground around a couple of the trees in the orchard. I would guess that is what the bear cub is after.

Bear in town 4/13/13
Has anyone else seen the bear in town this week? My husband saw it earlier on Thursday and then again around 2:00 this morning in our back yard drinking from a fountain. Our neighbor had it digging through his trash.  It's apparently huge. We're on Oriole. Could explain some of the nighttime dog barking.

Haven't seen one yet this year, but something went through our trash last night here on Lark.  My husband refers to all bears as "Chuck" and
told me this morning that "Chuck" is back.

My neighbor took the picture at 5pm near Oak and Blackbird. The previous evening bird feeders were found on the ground.

The young bear made an afternoon visit in the neighborhood.

If I hadn't seen it, I had no idea a bear could jump that high

It is amazing to see the different reactions that we have up here versus a person seeing a bear down the hill. We always have to remember that we are in the bear's and all wildlife for that matter's backyard up here. What some people think of as a once in a lifetime event, (bear down the hill,) we think of as Tuesday.

raddog we were joking about that right after it took place today.
If this was in Glendale people would have called 911 and Fish & Wildlife along with news choppers in the air covering the story.

Thanks for these pics, John!  What a beautiful animal!!  Did you actually take these photos or are they from one of your cams?

I took the pictures except for the 4 guzzler cam photos.
When I walked across the street I saw the bear in the neighbors bird feeder area and it didn't appear to be in any hurry to leave. I took a couple of cell phone photos then figured I'd get a real camera as daytime bear photos are not the easiest to come by.

Thanks for the great pics and video, John!  My neighbor told me she saw one about 2:30 today so I'm guessing this must be the one.  I guess we'll be keeping our eyes open for them during the day now...Yikes!

One time, maybe 15 or 20 years ago, I was out for a walk (no dog at that time), and was walking on Irene St. near Cedar I think, there were several people on a deck at a house, just staring out to the back yard.  A man asked me if I'd like to join them to watch a bear cub in the cherry tree in the yard next door.  Of course I joined them, fascinated with this little bear up in the tree.  The person who owned that cherry tree wasn't obviously as fascinated as I was to see a bear, sprayed water on it, and the little cub climbed down and left.  All the while I wondered where Mommy Bear was.  Finally I just walked the several blocks on home and never saw any more bears.

Beautiful pics and thanks for sharing, John!   :)
