Comments: Hello to all! I've been enjoying reading the forum posts and wondering if there is anyone I know still living in Wrightwood. I lived there from 1971-1974, and graduated from AVHS in 1973. Wrightwood was a wonderful place to live yearround, and it seems to still be as lovely as ever. Maybe one of these days I'll get back to visit; I've been living in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for six years. Note to Robert W. Morgan: We have a couple of coincidentals - I am originally from Burbank, and also went to John Burroughs HS in Burbank from 1970-71. In the early 60's, my mother and I appeared in Gelson's newspaper advertisements. Small world, isn't it!

A place where I have found the answer to the age old question, "does a bear poo in the woods?", well they do in my backyard. And they don't just do it in the "woods" either (feilds,streams,gradens,driveways and anywhere else they want to). Anyhoots,Just popping in to let ya know I'm alive and doing fantastic since my move. Do I miss WW? To be totaly honest, no. About the only thing I miss are the friends I left behind and I will always remember the good times at the Wrightwood Inn & the Raccoon Saloon. Oh, and I miss my little covey of quail as they were much cuter than the hoards of turkeys and grouse that show up now, not to mention less messier. ....Thank you Roger & Bety (i know I probably spelled that wrong), for if it wasn't for the pea gravel...we might not have ever found our dream home. ;-) Oh...and a big smoochie and hug goes out to B.J (aka Santa,Judge,Jonesie,Dad,and who knows what else.) The waves are mostly point breaks with really long rights and lefts. I have got a Klimax board, I visit alots of places in Peru, so i can tell you the food is great we have great beaches north of lima, like mancora, chicama,pacasmayo with great waves chicama has for me the longest wave in the world, 43 kilometers south of lima you can find pico alto with waves from 8 to 10 meters. Comments: In the mid-50's, there were about a dozen or more fighter pilots from George AFB living, and drinking, in WW. There were also an equal number of single/separated/divorced women living(and drinking)there.The Blue Ridge Inn was THE place and it was pretty lively most nites and really jumping on weekends. I and two fellow pilots shared a house just west of the apple orchard looking at the great view to the East. We really enjoyed the fun and games there for six months or so and then the partying got so bad (good?) that we began to take weekend cross-country flights just to get away from the boisterous revelry and get some sleep!! A popular event on weekends was Progressive Wake Up Parties...where you would be awakened at 2 or 3 AM by a houseful of (drunk)neighbors handing you a martini (from your bar) and persuading you to be happy and to stop being a Party-Pooper. Then you would drink it up and after a drink or two, you would be ready to join the crowd and do what?: Go to the next door neighbors and wake them up!!! Etc. It would be great to hear from any of those people who enjoyed your fair village 50 years ago! Chuck Williams

Came here on my way through to see a friend in Riverside I havnt seen in yrs stopped off here to say hi to a special someone and the nite came with way too much snow for me to leave. after 4 days of absolute heaven with the snow, the mountain and feeling like I was back home in Grass Valley where I was born and raised I had it in my mind I could live here!! prospects of work came through the day I put in my reume and app....and here I am. The Society was given the hose cart that was once on display outside the old firehouse. Comments: WOW! what a great find, this site. This really brings back a whole lot of memories. Our Family had our first cabin on Pheasant that unfortunately burned to the ground. My parents had the home rebuilt by Eddie Scheider from Skyline Const.. After graduating from high school in 1963 I moved to Atascadero and worked for Eddie Scheider at Skyline Construction where we built some of the nicest homes in town. During the winters when it snowed most of us would work up at Holiday Hill for Heinz Steinman. While working there I helped build the 2nd snow making hill in Southern Californa, the first was at Snow Summit. At night we would work making artificial snow. Summers were spent at Twin Lakes where a good time was had by all. Our first stay in town was in the old community building-boy did it get cold. During the summer we had some great dances on the slab where part of the building burnt down. My dad was Bob Kelley who announced for the L.A Rams, many of his freinds in the business ended up coming to Atascadero and buying homes-Gil Stratton, who worked with my dad and Bill Keene. While viewing the web page I couldn't beleive that I didn't find anything regarding the Yodler. It was the greatest place to have fun in town. Mike Scruggs was the owner and also the Fire Chief. I remember on a couple of occassions when most of the volunteer firemen, myself included, would respond to the sound of the siren from the Yodler. Drury's Store was definetly the social spot of town. Mom and Pop Drury were freinds to everyone. I'm going to go thru my old photos and try to send them on.

He thought that I should meet this wonderful person with interests so close to my heart. I admit that I'm looking for her here on the forum. We just moved up from the valley below. I am a slightly mad scientist who is master to 1 Siberian Husky and The Black Dog. [She is a tale unto herself, you see.] I am drawn to canines closer to their wolf ancestry than the norm. Comments: Our first child (a boy) that is now 50yrs old was concieved in Wrightwood in 1952. I was then stationed at George Air Force Base in Victorville until 1955. A lot of GI's use to commute to the base in those days. It was so nice to leave the desert when the temperature was around 100degrees, climb the mountain and have the temp drop down to around 70degrees.My wife and I were just married at the time and were both 19 years old. Many fond memories of the mountains have remained with us over the past fifty years together as we traveled the world while I was in the Air Force 23 years. Once I was called (as many were) to fight a forest fire that developed on Mount Baldy. The people there treated us like kings and even fixed the lot of us a great steak dinner up the mountain in a small park. One day soon I plan to return with Georgia to see how the area has changed. Comments: We made reservations to take the kids up to Wrightwood to go snowboarding (I was very excited to show my kids since this is where I use to come when I was a teenager). After planning the trip I read some of the comments from locals about "visitors" that don't clean up after themselves, take over the streets, don't obey the laws, etc. They didn't sound pleased out these visitors... made me wonder if our visit was going to be a welcomed one. I should not have worried...it was a wonderful trip. Everyone in town was so kind and pleasant... the owners of the movie rental store, the Grizzly Cafe, everyone was so nice! Thank you!! We had a great time and my kids can't wait to visit again.

The water has risen to the bottom of the concrete levee. Quite a while since it's been that high. Rowena and I are former residents of Wrightwood. We lived at 514 Lark Road from 1976 to 1994. Comments: Wrightwood Calif. is a heaven to me.Been going ther since mid 70's.Started with Camp verdugo pines Christian camp one winter 1972,for three yrs in a row went to the winter camp,I was young ,the pancakes were good but I was so shy..back then..So mid 70's a so called hiking club hiked to Mt Baden Powells mine.We went in for hours ,climbed the stairs past the water,up the to different levels. A great veiw from the standing outside the mine.So then the late 70's took all my friends camping there (freecampgrounds) Blueridge.lupine.and on down to the 3rd&4th free campgrounds. Seen bears .Then the early 80's came it was snowsking.(holiday hill)then Mountain highwith all the buddies from work in 1985. Camping so many times,snowsking,hiking,and now my favorite.The 90's till now have been driving and fishing.I'll start from Apple Valley(driving) towards put it this way I got the drives down straight to back side of Wrightwood to Jackson Lake, Caught and released 36 rainbow trout in 2003, Then drive 16 miles north to Big Rock Creek. Great drive and Fishing (rainbow trout)end up at Little Rock Resevor.I got so many stories thats a few about Wrightwood so now gettin ready to drive up to the snow like I did yesterday and the day b 4 love that place......spiritually

Comments: I Lived in Wrightwood during the years of 1945 to 1950. My father was the over the water Dept. in Wrightwood. I went to the one room school with Mrs. Lewis as the teacher.We had some really great times. The population was less than 700 people, and everyone went to Victorville for Jr and High school. It was such an interesting place. Once we had snow five ft deep!That was a big deal for the little ones. I remember a lot about Wrightwood,espescially about the little community church,and the Easter Sunrise services there. I also remember rumours of famous people there. I do remember being in the home of Aldous Huxley.One of the most memorable places to me as a child was the Acorn Lodge. Quite impressive!As chldren we hiked and covered the whole area, and never felt unsafe.It was espescially interesting to go to the 'mudslide houses' There had been huge mudslide and there was nothing being built there because you could still look into the very tops of the houses that had been completely covered up to the roof tops with mud, and you could see the traces of the mudslide clear into the desert near Phelan. I have many wonderful memories of childhood there, and would love to hear from any other people who were there then too...God Bless

Comments: Rick, the Residential Livecam, also known as Wrightwood NatureCam is located on a Private Forest location. The buried pipe is a custom built water hole or better known as a guzzler. Guzzlers provide wildlife with water for drinking, bathing, and in some cases, breeding.

The NatureCam features a Hi Resolution Camera and Infrared Illuminator monitored with motion sensing software. Any movement in front of the camera automatically records to hard disk - day or night.

Comments: Leea: I am suprised you re-contacted me. I was a bit under the weather from medication when I responded to your note. When I next checked I was amazed at how well I misspell Etc. Yes there is a ton of traffic after a snow. Lots of traffic when the slops are open but after a good snow it is terrible, but with patience and bravery you can get around. The closest mall is Victorville, approximately 25 minutes away, although Ontario Mills isn't much further. We just prefer to stay on the hill when we can. There is a Stater Bros market in Phelen, 7 minutes away, and of coure Jensens in town. One thing you give up by moving into the country is being close to malls ect. I don't miss them at all! that is one of the reasons we moved, to get away from malls and crowds. Good luck and really think this through as some people never get used to the distance and weather.
