Just realized the message I posted for friend concerned about her son didn't include his name.  It is Noel Cook.  If you know him, please tell him to call his mom. Thx

One of the dozer operators is the same guy (Gary McCord) who successfully did the dozer work in Lone Pine Canyon and Circle Mt during the Sheep Fire Oct 2009 - we are fortunate to have him working this fire

Hi Wrightwood, I think this is a pretty good time to make a donation towards this site. I appreciate having someplace I  can count on for reliable info. I know there used to be a PayPal button for making a donation. I don't see it now.  Can you point me in the right direction?  Thanks.

I say we all get together and do a fundraiser for this site after this darn fire is over.  For now.. I think we need to concentrate on the fire itself and where it is spreading to. No offense meant. .. best to all..cheryl o7o

Very good to hear that! I still think it was a mistake not painting circle mountain earlier.  >:(

Based on Channel 7's current helicopter coverage, the fire is now a little more than half a mile (.58 miles) from the easternmost home on Chaumont Dr.  Picture to follow.

If you now evacuate from Wrightwood
you MUST head towards Mountain High!

Do not travel towards the Hwy 138!

Latest MODIS satellite infrared sensor fire detection callouts as of 11:45am PDT.

http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/data/kml/conus_latest_AFM_bundle.kml

The sensor pixel size of the satellite instrument is large --- about 1 km on a side, which is the size of the large red box.  The edge of the box does not indicate the boundary of active fire; instead just a likelihood of detected fire within the box somewhere.  The "confidence" number assigned to this latest detection is 88%.

Using the measuring tool in Google Earth, the distance from the center of this latest MODIS satellite callout to the eastern edge of Chaumont Drive is 0.56 miles.  This agrees with Joe Schmoe's analysis of the television coverage provided by helicopter-mounted visual cameras.
