The southeast corner of the fire has taken off as well. Not sure where that is in Azusa Canyon, but this little weather front has been bad news.

I'll say this wind is bad news. I'm watching the NE front which isn't far from Largo Vista and Big Pines Hwy.

I just got back from the Grizzly Cafe, where a group of firefighters are waiting to be redeployed. I stopped and asked one of them about the fire and how far it has advanced. He said that he and his group just got back from the top of Largo Vista and that the fire is presently south of Largo Vista in the desert and is not coming up the mountain at this time. I asked him how will we know if that changes and there is a mandatory evacuation, and he said that his understanding is that there will be another robocall to all phones in WW well in advance of an approaching fire, and a sheriff's vehicle will drive up and down our streets announcing a mandatory evacuation on his loudspeaker. I told him that my wife and I plan to spend the night here tonight, see how things are tomorrow and will be ready to leave when the mandatory evacuation comes and he said that's what he would do too. That's the update I wanted to share with you.

Domingo - South of the top of Largo Vista wouldn't be on the desert floor. Do you mean west of Largo Vista in the desert? That's what it looks like on the maps to me. Thx. cheryl

Thats a bit reassuring. The smoke today was a bit much on Apple.

For folks who live down the hill, the mountains are always north. It can be slightly disorienting if you're from out of town and are on that side of the range.

I've taken advantage of the voluntary evaq option, so I'm in Riverside, less than 50 miles from tonight's 4.6 EQ.
Earlier tonight, reading this on the Inciweb Bobcat rpt for today was not reassuring:

"Fire has spread north into foothills communities of Juniper Hills and Valyermo. Wind-driven fire spread downslope with spotting and rapid growth threatening structures. Community of Big Pines and Wrightwood will be impacted very soon. Which are approximately 5 and 8 miles away. Fire north of Hwy 2 near Hwy 39 intersection, where fire is spreading from 0.5-2.0 miles per day; upslope, where fuels topography and winds align have demonstrated the greatest spread distances. On the east side, fire continues to threaten containment lines north of the Ranch 2 fire and threatens the Hwy 39 corridor. Very poor humidity recovery, especially in higher elevation, and warm overnight temperatures will allow the fire to burn actively through"

Also, remember there are only 2 ways out of the village currently and one involves the Sheep Creek Rd. detour. Thank goodness last night I was following a car through most of the detour because it was not clearly marked as it has been when I've used it before.

FIRE BEHAVIOR FORECAST
OPERATIONAL PERIOD: Sept. 19, 2020 Day/Night

Branch IV: Fire established along the foothills between Juniper Hills and Big Pine will continue to spread rapidly in lighter fuels down drainages, downslope during the day, and less so at night. Spotting and running likely. As the day warms,
winds from the S-SW will push the fire easterly, towards Blue Ridge and community of Wrightwood.

Branch V: With another windy day, expect fire to spread rapidly in lighter fuels down drainages, downslope during the day, with some upslope/updrainage pushes where winds are in alignment, and less so at night. As the day warms, winds
from the S-SW will push the fire north and easterly, towards Big Pine and Wrightwood.

I measured from that hot spot in the upper west that is just east of Largo Vista. 6.8 miles from there to my place on Green Rd. in PH.

That's an awful lot of homes. Dozens. There's a spot in there on Big Pines Rd my wife always wants to buy property that got it too.
