Speaking of woodpeckers, how do you keep them from pecking the side of a cabin?  During one of the first few nights we spent in our new cabin, we were awaken by a very loud rat-tat-tat-tat on the outside of our bedroom wall. A very startling experience to say the least.  Inspection later that morning showed several holes bored halfway though the ceder siding of the cabin. What should I do to prevent furthur pecking?

You won't be able to stop them even if you replace the wood siding with metal. The flicker woodpeckers love to rat-tat-tat-tat on metal at 5:30am.

Move is your only option as they were here first.

Nice pictures Wrightwood and a good how-to pictorial. Great pictures of you also! Did you hire a professional photographer to take them. ;)

Although you may want to warn BostonBob that he is the only one in the photos who is just begging for an OSHA violation.  ;D

So would these houses attract the flicker as well?

I can't believe he came over to my shop wearing a Lowes T-shirt unless they plan on sponsoring this project

We actually designed it for Flickers and the Acorn's appear to be taking on squatter rights.

Have your house checked for termites, which may attract woodpeckers.

or try

Ropel Liquid--This product will give whatever it is sprayed on an extremely bitter taste. You will find this a good tool to keep squirrels from cutting the wood into your attic. The squirrel will find the sprayed area too bitter to chew. Also works on woodpeckers and rabbits. Use as needed.

Great bird house.
It kind of reminds me of reality tv.  ;)

Looks like the new home continues to pass inspections inside and out.
Here's a video clip from this morning of the prospective occupant taking the first interior peek.

Notes:
(Some people will need to download the file to their hard disk before viewing the video. The video will appear as black and white due to the interior of the house being dark. It's viewable because of the infrared camera used.)

Is there a link where we can watch the "walk through" and 'move-in' live?

Interesting question.
At this point there is not a computer uploading images of the woodpecker cam. When more activity takes place with the Woodpeckers moving in, images will be uploaded.

Adult discretion will be needed since we have a view inside their bedroom  :cop:

All motion is being recorded on a DVR unit just as 2 cameras on the Steller's nest are being recorded along with the guzzler live cam and some others. Additional video footage is being taken while the Acorns are working on the main entrance.

Is there a link where we can watch the "walk through" and 'move-in' live?
