Citizen Disaster Survival Training
« on: Oct 10, 05, 09:01:47 AM »
We attended this workshop when it was offered a few months ago and found it extremely helpful with our household preparation for disasters. This event is something that all families in Wrightwood should attend.

I would be very interested in attending something in the spring. The fall is such a busy time for families that are involved with soccer, band, etc. We have a band tournament that day, or I'd go to the training.

At the first workshop a young boy of 10 or 11 years old got as much from the class as the adults.

Captain Bennett teaches this class in a very easy to understand format.

Do you ladies (and/or gentelmen)  know where your gas and water meters are located and how to shut them off when we have a big earthquake?
How about lifting a refrigerator off your children in the event of an earthquake?

The survival course that Captain Bennett teaches is real world...interesting and just the good stuff.  No fancy algorithyms to memorize...you will learn the simple things you can do for your family to be prepared.

What a wonderful way to spend just one day...it's an investment in your family's future.

I know the funds go to the disaster shed but is there anyway to do just a youth program?

The misses and I attended this training yesterday and let me tell it was a day well spent. My wife really enjoyed it as much as I did, which really came as a surprise, because she is not usually into these type of things. Big kudos to Captain Bennett who puts on, a not only informative presentation, but highly entertaining and enjoyable as well. We both learned a lot and also learned that to have common sense during an emergency you need to be well informed on what your best options are, which we learned in this class. You not only learn the right things to do, but also learn not to do the wrong things, that could do more harm in an emergency. I would highly recommend that people take this class when it is offered the next time, which will probably be in January or February. This information really is a must for any resident of our area and especially for parents with young kids at home. Thanks again to Captain Bennett and the members of the Wrightwood Disaster Preparedness Team for volunteering your time to make the citizens of our community much more prepared in an emergency situation.

Myself, wife, and daughter all attended this presentation.  Although it is not the first event of this type that I have attended, this was the best presented.  We all considered it well worth the time and money spent and would recommend it to anyone.

The beauty of training like this is that it empowers you and your family with the knowledge to make good decisions when a disaster strikes.  You don't end up being helpless ....waiting for someone to come help you out.  It would be great if there could be an abbreviated version of the course taught at our Middle and High Schools.
