My son took this photo when we were in New Zealand in 2004. It is of the Museum in Aukland, and the beautiful colors were done in honor of the Prime Minister, Helen Clark, who was visiting for a gala event.

Thank you so much! He was on the Queen Mary for a wedding and it was a new experience for him! He does look dapper for a little tyke!!

This little guy was behind glass at the Big Bear Zoo. He is pretty close to actual size on my 19" monitor.
Can anyone know why kind of owl this is? Not a game I just forgot.

I am going to change my mind.

I think I misunderstood the size. It's not nineteen inches, is it? It's more like nine, yes?

Then it's a Western Screech Owl, still an immature because the ear tufts aren't well developed yet.

First thought:
I think it is an juvenile Great Horned Owl for two reasons.
1) Its size
2) Its small ear tufts

The only other large owl with ear tufts is the Long-eared Owl which is much slimmer "with proportionately larger ear tufts that are closer together on head"

I've been there many times over the years but not lately, would love to go again. The museum is something to see, but for me it's the gardens that keep me there rest of the day.
