I talked to the officer who was the first on scene about 4 days after it happened and he was still shook up.  So sad!!!!

I was just trying to say when things get that crazy, it is literally a triage situation and you have to deal with the most pressing issue.

I gave you a karma point (I'd give ya 20 but it won't let me!) for doing trash pickup.  I did it for 2 summers in a summer job in college and I know how yucky it is.  What used to drive me nuts was all the tin cans in the campfire and the trash was full of paper plates--go figure!!!!

I wish there was a way to get the message across to the people who come from down the hill, or wherever, that we don't appreciate their dumping skills up here. It is a sorry situation, and we will continue to encounter this, until something is done about it. Kudos to any and all of the townspeople who are out there, (like this morning), on highway 2 picking up trash. If I wasn't going up to work, I would have loved to go help.

This season has had some of the worst grid lock ever on Hwy2 near Big Pines.

Many factors seem to contribute to the mess with hundreds of illegally parked vehicles and lack of enforcement being at the top of the list.

These photos were taken last Saturday on what would be considered a light to medium traffic day between Mountain High East and West.

It should also be pointed out that a much wider shoulders exist in these photos than did 2-3 weeks ago, as the snow has melted and more plowing has taken place. When the major grid lock(s) took place Caltrans had not plowed the shoulders wide enough for the illegally parked vehicles to be off the roadway.

The Lancaster CHP has started working the area with citations and road blocks to help reduce the problem.

Why can't an electronic sign board be posted that illegally park vehicles will be towed away and have it aggressively enforced? (Maybe the No Parking signs will need to be changed to Tow Away Zone)

What incredible photos!  Makes me doubly glad that I work weekends, so that I have the weekdays off to enjoy our forest.

Signs do absolutley no good unless they are enforced no matter what language they're in.Can't you see it's a chain reaction. One parks there ,then another and the others think it's ok because everyone else does.Tow trucks and officers should be there before it happens thereby stopping the chain. Oh Yeah I forgot  "BUDGET CUTS" day late dollar short

WW, You say this is some of the worst traffic ...

How does it compare to other "lotsa snow" years, such as El Nino 97-98?

It would take only one day of mass towing of illegally parked cars IF the TV networks were given a heads-up so they could have their cameras here and get it on the evening news.
