I just drove down big pines highway on my way out of town. There are areas where the snow banks are just peppered in yellow. Disgusting.

This so called USFS Volunteer Mike McGuire is not a Forest Service Volunteer. He might be a foreman at Camp Fenner but he is not a Forest Service Volunteer. More "Fake News" and disingenuous information.

I'm a simple man, it looks to me like Elk pasted a Facebook post from the Big Pines Ranger Station. It looks to me like whoever controls that Facebook profile -- presumably someone at the ranger station -- is the one who called the person in question a USFS volunteer. Exactly who is spreading "fake news"?

Mike McGuire IS a USFS Volunteer and has been for decades. He's not a USFS Volunteer out of Big Pines, or our side of the forest. He is a USFS Volunteer on the "other side" of the forest, West of Islip Saddle, often seen patrolling with his wife Robin on bike. In fact Mike and his wife Robin were both named USFS Volunteers of the Year for 2015. The two pictures of trash and the picture of the stolen toilet are from the other side of Islip Saddle.

Yep that's his lovely wife Robin. They have put in 27 years together and were awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award 2015. This is them getting ready to ride the Rose Bowl parade with the Montrose S&R team.

Well phew, I'm glad the 'who is this masked man' rumors are put to rest now. And, ya know, for a social media outlet, it didn't take long for all of you to supply the correct information.

So, back to snow players, trash, blocking roads, private property invasions, etc. All of which I take seriously.

I had lunch with Sean (P-38) yesterday and he indicated it was open to the gate just past Grassy Hollow. This was yesterday; don't know what today is. BTW, he and Susan are not writing NERF violations for not having the adventure pass displayed. They are writing the actual "ticket" which has a price tag of $135.00. If we write the NERF violation they won't "ticket" that vehicle. Pocket book work at it's best.

you can get to Grassy Hollow. Sabrina from Grassy Hollow text me this morning and said the gate just past Grassy Hollow is closed. Caltrans is in charge of closing these gates and it appears they've done this out of concern for vehicles sliding or getting stuck in the snow and not being able to turn around.

Mike McGuire and his wife are volunteers but they work on the Los Angeles River Ranger District of the Angeles National Forest and not Big Pines or any where on the Santa Clara Mojave Rivers Ranger District. Why someone would use pictures that are old and mix it in with local pictures and report it as news is beyond belief? People are posting pictures from out of the area and even out of the state and some of them are years old. They are mixing in pictures from our local area some new but most years old and reporting this as recent news. I think the photo's should have a date and time stamp embossed as well as the location of where the picture was taken. Lots of false information floating around out there. We work hard to keep our Forest clean and when people post false images it makes us look bad and discredits the huge effort that we put forth to keep the Forest clean as we can during these trying winter snow play weekends.. Fake News!
