I just downloaded it so I'll check on the update part. I still have the big red boxes where there should be stuff, though.

I started using Firefox and Thunderbird (their mail handler) about 2 years ago. I couldn't be happier.

There is a site I visit (I know the owner personally) that requires IE and it drives me crazy. I keep after the owner to "upgrade" his site to be Firefox compatible but so far no luck. I tell keep telling him, when his site crashes his hard drive he will wish he had listen.

Kimy, I barely know what I'm talking about, but last year in February I was having some major issues, and Surfer_Dude was kind enough to come over here and fix whatever was wrong, plus he installed Firefox on here.  I only know that it always works when IE doesn't, and I think I should use it most of the time.  I don't know if it's set to update automatically or not - do you remember, SD?  Otherwise, how do you set it to do so?

I found it. At the top left, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Update tab. It should be chosen to update automatically, if not you can choose it. Then Apply and so on.

When I simply moved my computer from one room to another, I have trouble with my internet service.  When I called Verizon they did their tests and all seemed just dandy however,   they recommend a new modem.   I've moved the computer 3 times in 2 years and this problem occurs every time but seems to sort itself out - until now.  I can use it, its just being verrrry temperamental!  Thanks for feedback!

Thanks, Kimy.  I checked it and it is set to update automatically.  Knowing what a computer whiz Surfer_Dude is, I shouldn't even have questioned it!   ;)

Seems as if screen flips are much faster on Firefox.  I just have to get more used to where stuff is, but it's very user-friendly.

You can play it here with "Firefox"

Thanks, Ken!  Now I can waste time without having to mess with IE!

Anyone else having problems with their Verizon email? It will not let Thunderbird retrieve the emails, so I have to go on Verizon's site to look at my emails. Just curious if anyone else using Thunderbird is having the same problem.

Yes Linkline is another ISP and provides service to Wrightwood in places that Verzion refuses.

What is Linkline?  Another ISP?

So John,
I was reading this post of yours from back in January and saw this reference to Linkline. This is news to me. I went to the website and it's a little confusing to me. It lists "Verizon" packages, etc. How does it differ? How did you find out about it? Do you have a static IP? What package do you have?

As you may recall, we've had lot's of problems with Verizon and our Linksys router. It's never been resolved. We're going on 8 months now and no one's been able to fix our issue. I'm at a loss.

I was considering trying a different brand of router, but I'm supposed to use the Linksys for my work (approved by our security dept.)

I also considered a fixed ip address, so as to eliminate the issue of the router hunting for the new address every time Verizon changes it (about 3 times a day). But, the cheapest package that Verizon offers is the business account for ~$90/mo. Linkline shows a T3 static ip for $49.95/mo.

I'm confused, but very interested in this new alternative.......

They show a Verizon chart because that's what's available in our general area.

We pay 59.77 a month and that includes 3 static IP addresses for 3.0m/768k service. (Which is $49 a month plus $10 extra for the additional IP addresses)

There's a Linksys router on each of the static IP addresses and have had no problems at all.

The only complaint we have with Linkline is that we've never received a referral credit that they offer and we've referred plenty of folks to them  :'(

Bring up a COMMAND window - Click on RUN, type CMD in the window.  At the prompt type IPCONFIG /RENEW ALL.

Here's what I got.

"Windows IP Configuration
The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissable for this operation."

I don't know what that means. Everything is plugged in as it has been and something must be working since I'm on the forum.

Try turning off the dsl modem, wait a few minutes then turn it back on, this will reset it and also resync it with the mother ship.

And don't forget shut down your computer (sometimes better than restart) and start it back up again.

Just a few thoughts...

Do I shut down the computer before the DSL or vice versa?

Try the DSL reset first. If that doesn't work then try the computer shutdown/restart. That way if it happens again, you know shich one to do.

If a router/firewall is being used it should also shut down and restarted.

I've found the best method is to have one power strip (surge protector) with the modem, router/firewall and any network switches or hubs connected. Turn the power strip off for 10-15 seconds and all devices are reset.

This would not be the same power strip (surge protector) that the computer, printer and scanner should be connected into.

Verizon DSL (not working)

Our DSL has been out for 24 hrs. We are on Walnut. Anyone else having problems. Verizon has never been any good, always cutting in and out, but 24 hrs is ridiculous! Of course we have been on the phone with them for 20 min. with the typical run around. So I was just wondering if anyone else is having problems. Thanks!
