We are some of the few that turned our back on WW and left when the mandatory evac was issued but now, after two days, we feel that we have used up the shelter-credit that we had with our relatives in Rancho where we stayed, and would like to come home. How does the situation look for coming back in? Right now we are planning to use Hwy 2 all the way from La Canada, but I don't want to drive all this way through the mountains just to turned away at Big Pines, so - will I be able to get into town?
Pretty sure that 138 is still closed, but would I15 North then Phelan Road into Phelan and from there the normal way home be a possibility?

Just my 2 cents but it will be difficult to get back in.  HWY 2 is still closed from LA County line to 138.  And 138 is closed from Phelan Rd to I15.  However, the fire has made it to HWY 2 and Wright Mountain Rd.  There is a chance for the winds to come up today and push the fire across HWY 2.  Today might not be the best day to head back.  If you haven't already check the information on InciWeb:

http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4962/

It has all the road closures and a current fire map.

Good luck!

Wrightwood .. I' am loving the large PDF versions of the maps. Yours too Lcadder.  These old eyes can actually read them.  I'm pretty sure that Gobbler's Knob was the orange glow I saw. Is Horseshoe Canyon the turnoff of the 2 right after you get on the 2 from the 138?  It heads east towrds WCV. cheryl o7o

As the temperature soars the humidity drops. Dangerously dry conditions persist today by the #BlueCutFire.

For clarification: Different maps show different locations as Wild Horse Canyon
Based on USGS Topo maps - the general valley floor is Horse Canyon and as you head SE you enter Wild Horse Caynon

Topo Map

That would be Wild Horse Canyon Rd, Cheryl

Just came up the 15N to go to work from down the hill, where we are staying.  Pretty much the whole pass is an ash grey color, including Lone Pine Canyon.  However, I couldn't see any sign of fire that would be threatening Wrightwood from that vantage point.
