Mtn High North being used as landing zone (LZ) for 2 helicopters
I drove up to MH North on my way from Jackson Lake area through WW at around 3:30p+-. Looks like Columbia Helicopter Corp is setting up shop. It was very early on and only one support vehicle was there in the beginning stages of set up.

Finally a lot of air resources working the fire. I have seen TNKR137, TNKR160, TNKR163, TNKR914, C130, TNKR107 and at least 3 helicopters.
One of the helos has left now and is headed back to Fox Field in Lancaster after buzzing MH North. They may not be ready yet to receive helos at MH North??
Looks like they have tanker bases set up at San Bernardino and at Mojave airports.

That's near Brown's meadow.  Sure, let's burn down all the special places in 2020  >:( >:( >:( .  Someone violated the forest closure because the Sunset Peak trailhead isn't being patrolled, or the gate for Glendora Ridge Rd isn't closed.

The parking lot there has been used for a helibase many times over the years.  Safe...wide open with facilities and can be secured from the public.  The helicopters come with their own fuel trucks and mechanics and will do maintenance of them all through the night.  For every hour of flight, there are certain things that have to be checked and serviced.  These folks do this pretty much year round with many going to Australia in our Winter (their summer) to fight wild fires there.

Do you know if they're going to put more air drops on the NE flank of the fire today?

SoCal Air Operations
@SocalAirOps
#BobcatFire All tankers have arrived with the exception of Tanker 914 (VLAT) with a 9 minute ETA. Fixed wing aircraft will be working on the northern side keeping it away from the Mojave boundary. Quebec 1 & 2 along with rotorwing will be working the southern part near #Monrovia.

I have been hearing aircraft all day, sounds like they are south of Wrightwood, heading west.  From the sound, they have been big planes, not helos.  Welcome sounds under the circumstances.

September 13

Evening update for the Bobcat as active fire moves down into Santa Anita canyon with decent activity visible on the Alert Cam network, Arcadia Cams.

Fire crews saw heavy fire activity in the north and south ends of the Bobcat Fire today. On the south end, the fire reached Santa Anita Canyon near Chantry Flat where fire activity will remain high overnight. Priorities remain to hold containment lines and protect the foothill communities as the fire continues to progress south. On the northeast end of the fire, near the intersection of Highway 2 and Highway 39, crews used strategic firing operations to keep the fire south of Hwy 2 and west of Hwy 39. Both the eastern and western ends of the fire remain moderated by the Ranch2 and Station Fire burn scars allowing for lesser fuel loads. This fire has mainly been driven by steep terrain and dry fuels, some of which have not seen fire activity in at least 60 years. As smoke lifted, aircraft operations were able to monitor growth and make water drops. Tonight, smoke and flame will remain visible to surrounding communities as fire activity remains in the south.
