Any word on the "smoker" up on Baden Powell?  I'd hate to see that take off in the trees up there.

I just heard a small mention of the smoker on Baden Powell.
Doesn't sound like it did much.

Everyone on here today has been a lifesaver!   :2thumbsup:  I sure do appreciate the messages I was getting back while I was stuck at work, wondering how I was going to get home after a friend called me and alerted me to the whole situation.  We were busy and I hadn't had a chance to even look at the forum until she called.

I think it's fantastic that we can all help each other on this forum, by posting our observations as soon as possible in situations like this.

There was a small brush fire coming up the Devore crunch about 45 minutes ago.  Looked like they were knocking it down pretty good.  Had a missed photo opp tonight.  Camera was way in the back of the car, and not in arms reach, or we would have shared some very good silhouette shots of the crew attacking the fire.....

Any word on the causes... Lighting ???

That fire near Kenwood was covered in this topic. Never heard a cause.

A lightning fire started a blaze today at 12:24 on 233rd street east and Ft. Tejon road in the Mescal Creek area east of Largo Vista road.  The fire was quickly pushed to over 50 acres due to powerful down drafts from thunderstorms.  The U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County Fire Departments contained the fire at 80 acres at appro. 20:00 this evening.  The fire was named the "Highland" incident and over 12 homes were saved.  Engines and Hand Crews were supported by dozers, Helicopters including LA County's Blackhawk ship and two Airtankers.  The fire is currently contained and full control is expected at 08:00 on 7-23-2006.  This is the fire that was visible from hwy 138 and 18 intersection.  Crews and Engines will be working through the night mopping up hot spots and securing the lines.

It is on the San Gabriel River Ranger district.  They will probably helicopter some crews in there to take care of it.  It is in steep, rugged, nasty "you can't get there from here" country.  But as of 6:30 or so last night, the FS was aware of it and was trying to figure out how to get in there to put it out.

What about the fire at Kenwood?   I may have to go down to North Fontana today.

We came in from Vegas late last night (2:30 am) and all lanes were open on the 15 SB....Had a traffic light board warning of firefighters working on the 138 but we didn't see any or the glow or flames. Looked like they had it pretty well knocked down. Went through some hellacious thunderstorms on the 15 , maybe they helped out with the fires.

It was hard to get good info on road closures on the radio, (960 am, our local news channel, had a canned program on...102.3 was useless, 98.1 was innacurate) and when we heard there were fires off N4 and Devore also...I realized how limited we were. I really didn't think we'd make it back to WW.  I calld the WW Inn and tried to get info from some of the people there...but they didn't know much either.

Great pics in the other thread!

Wrightwood....Do you think you could start a radio station too?  ;D  You'd have alot of callers.
